Newt Gingrich removes “anti-immigrant” Romney ad after scolding by Sen. Marco Rubio,
Miami Herald ^ | 1/25/12 | Marc Caputo

Posted on 01/25/2012 11:14:14 AM PST by Nachum

Sen. Marco Rubio scolded Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign over a Spanish-language radio ad that accuses rival Mitt Romney of being “anti-immigrant.” “This kind of language is more than just unfortunate. It’s inaccurate, inflammatory, and doesn’t belong in this campaign,” Rubio told The Miami Herald when asked about the ad. (snip) By mid-day, Gingrich’s campaign said it would pull the radio ad out of “respect for the senator’s wishes.” About the same time, former Sen. Mel Martinez and a group of Hispanic leaders aligned with Romney in issuing a letter demanding Gingrich remove the ad.

This was an actual Gingrich ad and not a Superpac ad?

Sigh.... Newt is such a bomb thrower. I just wish he would cut it out. He does not help himself or the conservative movement with ill-considered, bombastic tirades against Romney and any and all other "enemies." Among other things, this sort of thing just turns off the Independent voters.... And it simply disgusts me, a conservative voter.

Romney (or Santorum) going "tit-for-tat" only makes matters worse....

They should be "taking the fight" to the President right now, not savaging, bloodying each other....

Well, JMHO FWIW.

Make no mistake, Romney started and continues to sling mud. Gingrich attacks Romney with the truth and with what appears to be some bombast. While this might turn you off, there are a lot of people who fins the idea of a candidate righting back to be a novel concept.

Candidates and Republican voters better wake up and realize that we are in for the fight of our lives and act accordingly.

Folks - IMHO this is getting out of hand. Mittens and the elites are in panic mode big time. Newt smells blood, but both of them make me angry right now. Step back and see what you are doing, boys. UGH. NOT pretty.

We should be better than this harmful, hateful rhetoric back and forth. Feeding the Dems with this rubbish to be thrown right back in our faces in mere months, rackles my nerves.

Frustrated with our choices - there should be better choices all around. I also hate the fact that We the People are forced to accept what Iowa, NH, Florida and SC want. I prefer to have a voice in this matter.

After that disgusting SOTU speech last night I’m even more interested in taking back our country during the election, but this GOP candidate behavior is not helping, IMHO.

This is war. In war you throw bombs.

McCain played the nice guy and what did it get him?

Romney started the war in Iowa. Gingrich has shown that he can match Romney and Obama bomb for bomb. Gingrich is a fighter. That is what we need.

No more Mr. Nice Guy.

“Candidates and Republican voters better wake up and realize that we are in for the fight of our lives and act accordingly. “

OK, you got me there!! This IS exactly true. Off topic, but this fits right in is this: Being in the middle of this mess of a recall up in Wisconsin where the National Dems / Unionistas are pumping MILLIONS of buckeroos here in our state to protect their precious unions, we HERE in WI are also in the fight of our lives. At this point, the total lies of 1 million recall signatures is bogus. Multiple signings, porky pig and donald duck signatures and it was alleged that three days before the cutoff date of Jan. 17, they were paying people to sign the recall petitions, which only needed 540,0))+ signatures. Walker will be re-elected AGAIN here and we will win again, victory for Walker.

Get your friends to participate. You are so right, Darus.

The ad, from something read earlier today, actually says that Romney is the most anti-immigrant of the candidates.

That is not exactly what I’m hearing in the media.

If that’s so, would you acknowledge that Gingrich is correct and that Rubio is playing politics.

We know that Santorum is proud of his immigrant parents, I don’t have a clue what Paul’s position is, and Gingrich wants Granny & Gramps Illegal to get to stay due to family ties.

That kinda sorta means that Romney is the most anti-immigrant of the candidates.

Massachusetts conservatives have a difficult time dealing with Romney because he purports to be one of their own, his record says otherwise, and after all these years they suffer serious buyer’s remorse.

They should be "taking the fight" to the President right now,

Especially after the most horrible of speeches by the WORST PRESIDENT EVER last night. Everything Ubama said was material for rebuttal. He demonstrated clearly his utter lack of respect for our system of governance.

So what does Newt do? He continues to attack a Republican from the Left. He campaigns as a democrat, helped in no small measure by ads from the big labor PAC. He deserves to get smacked down by Rubio.

Newt did the same thing on Monday night, touting Medicare Part D and agro subsidies.

FReepers have advocated self-deportation for all the years that I have been signed on here. In addition, the illegals who hold jobs who remain are contributing to the high unemployment rate of American CITIZENS.

Newt would never have the courage to say that, unless he thought he was speaking to an audience who wanted to hear it and would vote for him. Honestly, his whoring truly astonishes me as much as the talk radio heads who pimp him.

From his recent statements, that is the position he is trying to portray. Gingrich is willing to let long time illegal residents stay under certain circumstances but Romney wants to deport everyone (or at least that is what he is saying).

Of course Romney is historically the most pro-illegal alien candidate of the remaining candidates, but not while he is trying to win the Republican nomination. Right now Romney is pretending to be Tom Tancredo. But that is what he does. He pretends.

Gingrich is offending a lot of people. Let’s see if his scorched earth policy gets him the nomination. Even so, if it does, it won’t get him the presidency.

“respect for the senator’s wishes.”

Translation: I will give you the respect and consideration due you in your home state.

But if you do not have the cojones to take a political risk and choose me or Mitt, what other considerations can you give me.

Newt is playing a very smart political game. Rubio should not be allowed sit this election out and ride the proverbial fence as any two bit political hack would do in what is the most important Presidential nomination campaign in his adult life. Leadership is about making the tough choices involving high risk and high reward. Leadership is not about the safe choices of punting the political football down the campaign trail.

Yes, Romney is actually the most pro-amnesty of all candidates yet in this race. He has to flip-flop to get this far in the process, so he has flip-flopped.

Perhaps Newt's strategy was to get Romney to react and claim not to be anti-illegal. That would, of course, open up Romney's record.

And that's why Rubio had to speak for him.

Yes, we know that Romney is historically pro-amnesty. We also know that he hires illegals, gives the company a stern talking to, and is surprised again a year later when he's still hiring illegals. (He doesn't check means he didn't care means he lies.)

Nice to know, that while Gingrich is speaking to me in English claiming to be pro-enforcement, he is on Spanish radio with pro-illegal rhetoric. Hypocrite!

All of the attacking is being done by Romney and has been since before Iowa. If anybody is using a scorched earth policy it is Romney.

It wasn’t until South Carolina that Gingrich even began to respond. That is a matter of record. His people were going nuts at him because he wanted to use that “Mr Nice and Above the Fray Positive Toward Republicans” approach, and all along Romney arm was getting tired from all the backstabbing.

C’Mon, La Enchiladita, you know this stuff. If you don’t like Gingrich, just say so.

“You have to live to in a world of Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island accounts and automatic $20 million a year income for no work to have a fantasy this far from reality,” Mr. Gingrich said. “This is an Obama-level fantasy… He certainly shows no concern for the humanity of people who are already here.”

The above is an attack BY Gingrich ON Romney FROM the Left. He has been doing it since South Carolina. A pro-Romney PAC ran ads in Iowa highlighting some of Gingrich's record. Tell me what was untrue about ethics violations, his resignation from the House and his LOBBYING for Freddie Mac. The record speaks for itself. Also, I am very surprised that some conservatives are willing to waive the important value that character matters.

I find it so frustrating that when Newt criticizes Romney - everyone wants to attack Gingrich and put handcuffs on him saying - “Unfair attack!”

Yet when Romney jumps all over Gingrich, it is ok and fair going.

Let Gingrich attack Romney and let Romney attack Gingrich or either don’t let either attack.

Shut up Rubio - you used to be a hero of mine.
