Rick Santorum Defends SOPA(Not my title)
Youtube ^ | Jan. 8 2012 | 32waiter79

Posted on 01/20/2012 8:22:00 PM PST by FreeReign

Read the title and judge for yourself. Santorum talks about internet regulation in general and doesn't address SOPA specifically.

Here are a couple of quotes from the video.

"...there are limitations on all freedoms. There are not abolute rights..."

"There are limits to what is a freedom on the internet....why should the internet be different from anything else?"

Those quotes, if true, are disturbing no matter who’s agenda is being secretly advanced.

The question was asked on the debate last night. He did not come out against it while the others did.

Writers, composers, and others have a right to copyright protection.

The problem with SOPA is that it takes that right and twists it, as an excuse to spy on internet users.

I don’t see any problem with supporting fair use, provided it is done fairly and reasonably, and not used as an excuse to take over the net, which is what SOPA seems to be aiming at.

I don't know about Rick, but I'm just aching for more federal involvement in my life. So here is a shout out for what really need more of, which is federal laws and regulations.

So why not take a targeted approach.

If copyrighted material is posted, let the individual contest it.

Shouldn’t require federal intervention.

Yeh that question and answer kind of did it for me with Rick. Rick Santorum is not interested in restoring the constitutional republic. He is a mainstream republican who is a social conservative but likes big government. That is not the way we need to go with this country.

Newt is the way forward in 2012.

This video is an eye opener:

Santorum is out if his mental comfort zone when it comes to this topic.

There are not absolute rights...

I always thought my God-given right to life was absolute. Now I feel cheated :(

To me the tech is out there that copy protects video and musc files but for some reason they refuse to use it. And it’s old too, been out since the ‘80s. For example there’s this old cheesy thriller from the ‘80s called “Bedroom eyes” that to date nobody has been able to crack. If you play the video on a VHS machine you cannot copy it to digital or anything else for that matter. That’s why you’ll never find it on any file sharing website or legit website. I remember a few years ago there was a competition by some hackers to see who could copy/transfer it to digital. Nobody could. So when I hear these record and movie companies complaining about file-sharing it makes me wonder what their true agenda is when the could stop it at anytime by simply putting that CP code on their stuff.

Several quotes including the following quote I find troubling (if I finally transcribed it correctly).

"There are limits to all freedoms. There aren't absolute rights"

We already have laws covering copy right protection! USE THEM.
We do not need the internet messed with by the Government!

With his waffling on this issue, and his vote AGAINST right to work shows he is really not a conservative at heart.
Too bad Rick, two strikes takes you off many lists for consideration. Maybe he should talk to his good friend Arlene.... "Not Proven" or so Specter said in the impeachment trial of Bill Clinton.

LOL...I like that name too..”Lamar”. The only other Lamar I know is the one from that movie “Revenge of the nerds”. “Lamars limp-wristed throwing style allows him to throw the javeline faster and higher than all the other competitors.”

I have been plagarized several times. It is a foul and unclean feeling.

I would prefer the targetted approach, but make it easier. A cease and desist with teeth and without the huge expense would be beneficial.

False. The first thing Rick said on the subject was that was also against the bill. He then proceeded to explain he was for protecting property rights, including intellectual ones, not for anarchy. But he said THIS law was poorly written and he was against it.
