(CNN) -- Etta James, whose assertive, earthy voice lit up such hits as "The Wallflower," "Something's Got a Hold on Me" and the wedding favorite "At Last," has died, according to her longtime friend and manager, Lupe De Leon. She was 73.
She died from complications from leukemia with her husband, Artis Mills, and her sons by her side, De Leon said.

I remember Ms. James famous song, “At Last”, the original was played at the end of the winning game of the 2004 World Series when the Red Soxs won the World Series title at over 80 years of dry spell.

What a slap in the face to Etta when Obama had Bouncie sing Etta’s song at his immaculation.
RIP Ms. James

Her suffering is over, she earned her wings. Thank you Ms. James, for some very very fine tunes.

Rest in peace Miss James. You will be missed here, but will make a fine addition to the choir in Heaven.
May God guide our course.

I seem to recall her performing at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics in a major tribute to soul religious music (When the Saints Go Marching IN) as part of the building of America tribute. She had an inspiring voice.

Wish I’d have seen that...an inspiring voice indeed!
