Elections officials to ask judge to schedule all recalls on the same day

Madison - As Democrats plan to submit more than a million signatures Tuesday to recall Gov. Scott Walker and five other Republicans, state election officials are preparing to go to court this week to try to ensure any elections are scheduled on the same day.

Keeping recall elections for Walker and the others on the same day would save money and lessen logistical problems for local clerks. But Democrats behind the efforts argue that if one recall election is delayed it should not hold up others.

State law gives the Government Accountability Board 31 days after receiving petitions to determine whether a recall election should be held. If enough signatures have been filed, the election is to be held six weeks later - though if more than one candidate from a party runs, that election becomes a primary and the general election is held four weeks later.

Board officials said last week they would need more than 60 days to review the petitions they expect to receive Tuesday for Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch. They will have to get a Dane County judge's approval for the additional time.

The board likely will not need as much time to review the petitions for four state senators because far fewer signatures will be filed in those races.

That means the board could review those petitions and schedule any Senate elections before ones for Walker and Kleefisch. But board spokesman Reid Magney said the board would ask the judge this week to allow the board to schedule any elections that are needed for the same date.

Democrats do not agree with that approach, said Graeme Zielinski, a spokesman for the state Democratic Party.

The whining, commie union thugs in this country are becoming a real pain in the @$$. It’s going to be a great day when Americans finally stand up to them and say, ‘ENOUGH IS ENOUGH’!

One thing the republicans need to learn is never.. ever.. give up.

It’s how the democrats have advanced their agenda. When was the last time they gave up on something they wanted?

(never)
