BERLIN (AP) Germany's Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich is honoring two Americans for helping apprehend an Islamic extremist who attacked a U.S. Air Force bus last year and killed two airmen.

Friedrich was to present the Federal Cross of Merit on Monday to Staff Sgt. Trevor Brewer and a civilian airport employee, both of whom chased the suspect after the March 2nd shooting, helping police arrest him at the scene.

They showed a level of restraint that is of no use in this war.

You would rather that THEY were imprisoned in Germany?

Yep, but then THEY would be sitting in front of a german court system which WOULD convict them and incarcerate them for a long period of time - likely longer than any of the RAF ever served ....

No matter who is President, the fact that we are target number one will not change. Talk of “peace, love, happiness,” won't change that.

Our leadership role economically, in security matters and politically, the symbolic aspect of the US, thrusts her into the sights of the enemy. While others are also targets, they are more targets of opportunity or secondary in nature. From our involvement in the Philippines, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Balkans, Libya, our support of Israel, S. Korea, Columbia... If action gets taken in the Gulf against Iran, guess who it will be leading this and who the Iranians would want to retaliate against more so than anyone else? We are the one that stands out front for the bad guys and while many of our allies face a national or at most regional threat, we face a global one where we have Abu Sayyaf, Hezbollah to the United Self Defense Forces of Columbia that would love to hit us.

It is unfortunate, but near all of our allies have a limited perspective and generally do not understand that it will be the American that gets thrown over board of the Achille Lauro, not the German, Italian, Frenchman or Greek. It will be the American that gets shot and thrown onto the tarmac out of the plane, or a Pan Am/TWA flight that gets targeted more so than any other, with exception of the Israeli's.
