Santorum defends support for restoring felons’ voting rights
The Washington Times ^ | January 16, 2012 | Stephen Dinan

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Rick Santorum pushed back Monday morning against a series of ads being run against him on his record on earmarks, labor issues and a vote he took in 2002 that would have forced states to let felons' voting rights be restored when they completed their sentences.

Mr. Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, is demanding the felon charge be stricken from an ad being run by a political group backing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, one of his opponents in the Republican presidential primary.

well hey...if Harry Reid said it, then it MUST accurately represent what Santorum’s position is! sheesh..

Yeah, I’m sure that, when almost every Republican voted AGAINST Harry Reid’s bill, (with the exception of Rick and Arlen) they just didn’t have Rick’s INSIGHT into the nuances of this amendment.

Santorum voted FOR an amendment that would have allowed Felons to vote in Federal elections after certain conditions were met. Most Republicans were against it. You can’t spin out of it, no matter what Rick’s current “position” is.

Sheesh right back ya.

Read his voting record and then try to convince yourself and the rest of us that Santorum is a true conservative. He is not.

If you believe this, you are in quite a conundrum because there is no doubt Santorum is more conservative than Romney or Gingrich or Perry or Paul. If your only criteria is the most conservative candidate running, you will have to support Santorum.

exactly.

People are acting like we have many choices left.

We don’t.

And I’ll say this....Rick is a heckuvalot better candidate than John McCain was.

And McCain was actually within striking distance of Dear Reader right up until the economic meltdown.
And that was back when people still thought O was the messiah

Watch the video at Finny’s post #85.

And if Newt supporters - of which I am mightily one - can say Newt should be viewed in a different and light because he repented and has gone to God for forgiveness - and we should vote for him because isn’t now who he was then... the same can be said of felons... though I personally cannot stand rick sanctimonious...

No. Santorum would wet his pants and curl up in a fetal position. Perry would be the best by far, and Newt second. Perry would enjoy the fight, but I think Newt would stand by and make himself do the right thing... even though he really wanted to run...

Like that’s supposed to make it look like you aren’t intentionally trying to smear him.

Just connecting the dots.

If someone proposes allowing convicted felons, (thieves, rapists, murders, illegal aliens, etc.) to vote, what does that tell you?

.

Perhaps you can relate to these guys:

.

BTW, I Liked Santorum until he advocated allowing child molesters, murderers and rapists to vote.

I admire Santorum’s aggressiveness and I just think he’s better than Newt.

Rick Santorum isn't aggressive. He's whiny and petulant. In a face to face, knock down drag out fight with an opponent such as Obama, he'd be made to look the weakling fool.

Newt, on the other hand, will still be waiting for Obama to show up and fight, long after the bell has rung. There are few in the political game who can match him for wits, knowledge, or skill, in a battle of verbal fisticuffs.

Yep -- a modern version of the line in Tombstone, "Hell, Johnny, he ain't even gonna show" --

Newt ... will still be waiting for Obama to show up and fight, long after the bell has rung. There are few in the political game who can match him for wits, knowledge, or skill, in a battle of verbal fisticuffs.

If a felon has served all his time, is his debt to society not paid?

Exactly. ALL of his rights should be returned once the sentance is served. This would include 2nd amendment rights as well. Otherwise, you end up with a lesser class of "citizen".

I'm disappointed that so many freepers oppose this.  There are far too many things in modern America that would make one a 'felon'.

"That's our kinda stuff!"

Newt's got the sort of stuff it's going to take to beat Obama, and steer this nation back onto its proper course. That's the whole reason he's got my vote.
