I think they likely used to use cane sugar to make Twinkies.

I tried a pair a couple of years ago and found them a weak phantom of their former selves (like when I wuz a kid).

For which Americans pay the highest price in the world because of tariffs designed to protect the sugar industry. Of course, we've lost a big chunk of our candy manufacturers to Mexico because of it, soda pop tastes like crap, and -- now -- our beloved Twinkies are endangered, too.

But the protectionists tell us they know what they're doing.

ALL cane sugar based goodies of years-gone-by don't taste the same.

I know ... I've ruined a perfectly good set of God's ivories gorgeing on 25 cent's worth of candy bars at a nickle each. (And they were BIG bars, too!)
