I can see how the book was probably very good, but a film adaptat III on should stand on its own.

I hope Octavia Spencer (I think that’s her name) gets a nomination for something. She’s the one with the eyes. She could say mmore with her eyes than 10 pages of dialog! All the reviews rave on about Viola Davis, but Octavia Spencer stole the show, IMHO.

WWI = Civil war style tactics with early 20th century killing technology = millions more killed in battle.

WWII = better defenses and offenses (air support and better tanks) in ground attacks, and more offensive ability in air attacks - German missiles and our long-range bombers and advanced air fighters.

The greater military ability in the air in WWII probably saved lives, compared to what might have been WWI-style levels, with the better ability to destroy opponents material means to conduct war.

I enjoyed the Louvre tremendously. The rest was just a city that smelled of bus exhaust and filled with people with New York attitudes on steroids.

Though the English version was good, I liked the Swedish version of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo better. The Swedish actress did a better Lisbeth Salander. She had more rage. Rooney Mara was too innocent looking for me. I could see right thru the hair and make up. I'm not saying she did a bad job, but the Swedish girl was better.

Which do you think is more likely to kill you? (Swedish girl on the right). BTW, I did read the books. The first one was excellent.

Agree on Octavia Spencer. She may indeed win the Best Supporting award. She was outstanding.

I couldn’t help but think watching Hugo, that the story allegedly took place in the early 1930s, and wondering if those people realize that in a few short years, their whole world was going to be ripped apart.

Certainly didn't save civilian lives, although mortality rates amongst soldiers was lower than WWI.

The new version of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is the worst major move I’ve seen in some time.

The original Swedish version was good despite the leftist slant.

Last I saw he had a huge plastic tallywacker and a cane

Later he was a halfling kitty

and don’t forget he sodomized sis on her wedding nite and had a groovy barge orgy pimping the senates wives

I love the guy but I always confuse him with Terry Stamp

I didn’t watch any of the others but in no way was “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” worse then “Immortals”. That movie sucked in every way possible and then went out and found new ways to suck.

That was predicted (disowned at home) in the movie by both “The Help” and by her boyfriend. Did you see the movie?

Don’t assume that the north is so different from the south. During that period (1950-1970) I think that people in the north were even more discriminatory than the south. The north were just hypocrites about it.

I am crazy about Midnight in Paris. I have seen it several times and everyone who went with me loved it as well. What a gem.

Oh yeah, The Artist was the best silent movie of the past 50 years.

I liked The Call of Cthulhu from the mid-aughts.
