Is the white population still that high? I was under the impression that London at least had a very high nonwhite population.

The non-white population of London is high, about 31%, but that is one city and about the same proportions as the entire population of the US. Across the entire UK population 85.67% is ‘white British’ plus another 5.27% ‘other white’ and 1.2% ‘white Irish’, so well over 90%. The next biggest ethnic group is Indian at 1.8% and Pakistani at 1.6%.
The UK is far less multicultural than the US, a common misconception amongst my American friends.
