Awakening is an incredible event, consisting of churches and ministries all around the world, coming together in a 21 day season of prayer, fasting and personal devotion at the beginning of each year.

We were encouraged at church this morning to consider participating in this national movement of prayer and fasting and devotion.

I have looked at the site, and it does NOT appear to be a "Rick Warren" or "Joel Osteen" hype factor...a book selling or feel good message.

Rather, it looks to be like a real effort to deepen one's walk and effectiveness for the world in the name of Christ. Perhaps it will move us to a deeper and stronger God fearing life in our nation--no matter what happens on the political front.

I invite YOU ALL to join Awake21 beginning next Sunday! Lots of free resources on the site.

While I rejoice that my Evangelical brothers and sisters are discovering the power of fasting (specifically commanded by Jesus), I respectfully suggest you research the practices of the ancient Church. Some Christians still follow the ancient path.

And, again respectfully, the time of Christmas and Epiphany Season is not for fasting, it's a time to rejoice, and yes, feast. What the Catholics call Lent and the Orthodox, Great Lent, is coming soon enough.
