‘It is a long list of usurpations of power that endanger the nation domestically and internationally. Whether it was done out of stupidity or a deliberate effort to harm the nation can be debated’

No. It is being done intentionally. He will destroy this once powerful country before he can be removed in the next election. It has been his plan all along.

The federal government must be neither left wing, nor right wing - it must govern from the center. State governments can be as left wing or right wing as the damn near please.

Now, by "center", I mean the federal government must be limited to a small number of things it's allowed to do.... an NO other. Do these things ONLY, and do them VERY well... we cannot trust you with one morsel more than that and risk that you do not do things "well". This is no more right-wing than John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, or George Washington were "right-wing".

States can depart from this "center" at their will - they can be left wing or right wing, as long as they present a republican form of state government to their citizens.

Nothing radical here... just common sense.

he is going to do his greatest damage to this nation in 2012. He fears not being re-elected so he is going to step-up his plans.

My prayer is that he is impeached before he can do his damage. Lord PLEASE save us from this monster.

The Founding Fathers, authors of the Constitution, were obsessed with any form of government that could become too powerful, too willing to use force to oppress citizens."

Which is to say they were sane. This sanity is sorely lacking in America today. Faith in the basic goodness of man—a total crock of a belief, unsupported by all history—has replaced the Founders' "obsession". A deep realization of one's own fallenness, and others', is essential in facing life accurately.

Like Israel of old, America has instead cried "Prophesy to us illusions!"s own fallenness, and others

I think I have more respect for the real Machiavelli.

Great Caruba piece, but here I would say he's too optimistic.: The trust given Obama is long gone by all but a few ignorant and lazy citizens content to have their lives ruled by an over-reaching executive branch of government.

He underestimates the number of our ignorant and lazy, unfortunately. And they will march zombie-like to the polls chanting "gay rights" and "global warming" and "99%" and "screw me harder" in hopes of further subjugating themselves to four more years of his reign.
