Iran's navy chief warned Wednesday that his country can easily close the strategic Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, the passageway through which a sixth of the world's oil flows. It was the second such warning in two days. On Tuesday, Vice President Mohamed Reza Rahimi threatened to close the strait, cutting off oil exports, if the West imposes sanctions on Iran's oil shipments.

Need to drill HERE, NOW, cut off these idiots influence on us entirely.
I think that would qualify as an act of war against the entire world and would certainly raise the ire of Iran’s neighbors who depend on the strait for their own livelihood. I think Iran is bluffing but if they were stupid enough to do this, I think it would be a serious mistake on their part.
The Saudis will not stand for this and would go to war to keep the strait open.

buy over one-third of Iran’s oil exports. The
U.S. buys no oil from Iran (other than
specially licensed swaps for Caspian oil).
They have been cut off for a long, long time already.
They always bluff. It is a nature of doing business over there. The trick is to find out what they are bluffing for. I feel it is because of our weak pResident they are trying to get the rest of the world and the Cicoms to exert pressure on the US to drop the coming new sanctions.
The real problem is that someone will react to a provocation and all hell breaks loose. The old claim that they would do nothing because they need the Straights for their refined oil to be brought back into the country doesn’t fly now since their addition of new refineries are producing all but 20% of their domestic needs now.
I hope Obama knows what he is doing. It can’t be like his Drone moment. Can I have my Drone back. Pretty Please

Of course the international oil flows could be rerouted to the south, then WE could threaten to close the Strait.
Closing the Straits of Hormutz is easy. Keeping them open is a naval challenge.
