President Barack Obama and his family spent a warm and sunny afternoon at one of the most popular snorkeling spots on the island of Oahu, where they released four green sea turtles into the water.
The Obamas arrived at Hanauma Bay on Tuesday after a scenic, 40-minute drive from their multimillion-dollar rented vacation home on Kailua Beach. During their two hours at the bay, the Obamas released four green sea turtles raised in captivity into the clear blue water.
Hanauma Bay is a favorite destination for the Obamas during their annual Christmas trips to Hawaii. The first family always goes to the popular spot on Tuesdays, when it is closed to the public for maintenance.

Snorkeling? What a pussy. Scuba diving is for real men.
I assume this effectively closed the bay for anyone else who had planned to spend their own vaction there the same day?

*SWOOOOOON*
He really is the fourth best president ever!
Snorkeling is to diving what taxiing is to flying.
All the tourists who were denied use of the park & bay that day thank your privileged, lazy a**, Mr President.

Now that right there is funny...I don’t care who you are! :-D
Tuesday is normally a maintenance day there so it’s already closed.
but I bet locals are already ready for the Obamas to just leave the islands.. or just go to molokai and stay there..
Somebody needs to tell him about the awesome snorkeling out past the rocks.
The park is closed to the public on Tuesdays.
that’s great...I went to work. Hey, somebody has to pay for these vacations.
Does the Secret Service get anti-shark training?
Those turtles were complaining about what they could get for $40, and TOTUS was taking down the quotes for Barry’s next presser.
The president has to be able to hop on a plane and deal with emergencies on a moment’s notice. You can’t fly on a pressurized jet right after you have scuba’d. Come on people.
Sharks don’t like the taste of moslem.
The chaos the Kenyan brings to the island on his precious expeditions is unbelievable. His presence is certainly not as "celebrated" as the MSM would have you believe.
Heh...where all the tiger sharks hang out..? I've snorkeled this bay and the area "beyond the rocks" is not for the faint of heart....
Yet I wonder how many of them will march into the voting booth and push his lever again, like good little drones.
“Does the Secret Service get anti-shark training?”
There is never a Great White around when we really need one...
Obama released a terrorist rather than send him to Gitmo
Ali Musa Daqduq who killed 5 American soldiers was released.
Whats a couple of turtle’s compared to that.
I want to know if he rented the public use flippers and mask or if he brought his own?
Careful, getting close to racist there....
Even the baby white tips are enough to give cause for pause.
Great place to snorkel though. Used to be a caldera which had collapsed to the ocean and now a protected bay.
Only problem is the wastewater treatment plant just north of Sandy Beach dumping effluent into the ocean sometimes gets washed back in for some higher turbidity.
Park closed or not the Obama’s don’t care. They pulled that trick up in Yellowstone a couple of years ago, where the Park Rangers closed major attractions at the park so the Obamas could drive up unimpeded when they got around to it. Many tourists planned their Yellowstone vacations well in advance and many drove all the way to see the sights just to be told, “Sorry folks, Yellowstone is closed for the day.”
Snorkeling in a bath house?
I was just there last month. I enjoyed snorkeling Hanuama Bay more than most of my Scuba diving trips in the cold waters off of the Azores Islands, where I was stationed. I swam with a pair of sea turtles for about an hour and ended up “beyond the rocks”. The worst part was trying to get back when the surf was really pounding me into the rocks, and I knew if my head hit, I was done for. I just reconciled myself to getting chewed up on the rocks as I crawled over while the waves smashed me every few seconds. Fortunately I managed to do it with only a few scrapes and bruises. Swimming with the huge sea turtles there is quite an experience. Amazing creatures.
I snorkeled there back in 1996. It was a wonderful experience, but I too got slammed into the coral formations and left with bruises, scratches and wonderful memories. Did not get to see and sea turtles though. :-(
I thought Obama said he would not rest until he solved the unemployment crisis ...

There, fixed it.
probably sucks to be one of the little people who expected to visit Hanauma Bay this day
A: Yum! Tastes like chicken!
I’ve been there. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world.
They gotta go when the bay is closed so that the First Beard doesn’t risk sustaining any harpoon wounds.
Cue the ‘Sea Hunt’ theme music from 1958.
“According to the local news, the hairy Wookie did not accompany the POS but stayed home. No reason as to why was given.”
EPA stepped in. Didn’t want the place turned into a superfund site.
You wouldn’t say that if you’ve ever spent a day in Hanauma Bay.
It’s a cool place, Hanauma Bay. Really cool.
Green sea turtles???
What does that mean? They were electric? Solar powered? What?
In all my years I've never heard of a president closing a major tourist spot so he and his family could spend a day there.
lol.. can’t remember the last time a manatee was spotted there either..
Off Lahaina is the place to be for ‘whaling’ action, personally, I’d be on the Big Island Kona side... for action, that is.
I’m sure the Doc had lots of bandages on hand, that coral reef is pretty nasty stuff.. rip ya up good.
I hope he put this on beforehand, it's for good luck.
