(CNN) - Former President George H.W. Bush has joined the ranks of former Republican associates of Newt Gingrich coming out against the White House hopeful.
Bush, who occupied the Oval Office from 1989 until 1993, a time when Gingrich was the House Republican whip, told the Houston Chronicle Thursday he was no promoter of Gingrich.
"I'm not his biggest advocate," Bush said. In the interview with the Texas newspaper, Bush backed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nomination.
Bush relayed an anecdote from his time as president when Gingrich failed to show up at an important White House announcement.
"The plan was, we were all going to walk out into the Rose Garden and announce this deal," Bush said. "Newt was right there. Got ready to go out in the Rose Garden, and I said, 'Where's Gingrich?' Went up to Capitol Hill. He was here a minute ago. Went up there and started lobbying against the thing."
Bush said Gingrich later spoke to him about the incident.
"He told me one time later on, he said, 'This is the most difficult thing I ever had to do.' I said, 'I didn't like it much myself, Newt.'"

Newt, told him not to do it. Instead Newt wanted to make a fight out of it.
If Bush #41 doesn’t like Newt, I’d consider that an endorsement!
Read my lips.....”Go back to your retirement hole and stay out of it”!
That breach of a promise cost us the White House....read my lips “NO MORE RINOS!”
I used to respect Bush Senior for not getting into politics (to my knowledge) after he left office. Looks like that has changed.
If Bush would have listened to Newt, he would have been reelected in 1992. READ MY LIPS, NO NEW TAXES.... except when my Chief of staff John SuNoNo tell me to break the promise....
So Bush41 is STILL too stupid to figure out that his Tax deal with the Democrats was the wrong thing to do and it torpedoed his elections chances and is holding a grudge against Newt because he was SMART enough to figure it out, albeit, at the last moment?
I detest the Bushes.
I detest the Leadership of the GOP.
I am that close to chucking them all overboard and becoming a committed third-party member.
Shut up you gutless, spineless, RINO jerkoff! Whatever nerve you had, you spent it in WWII.
And Gingrich takes another turn for the better. Next!

Mr. Bush thank you for your service to our country, both as a soldier in WWII and as our President. Now, go home and enjoy the rest of your life and we will take it from here.
Not to worry. Mr. "Read My Lips" will never say anything bad about a Democrat.
The entire Bush family should just STFU. Gutless bastards.
“The plan was, we were all going to walk out into the Rose Garden and announce this deal,” Bush said. “Newt was right there. Got ready to go out in the Rose Garden, and I said, ‘Where’s Gingrich?’ Went up to Capitol Hill. He was here a minute ago.”
Newt said, “Whose we, Kimosabe?”
Newt is on C-Span2 now.
He said that Lincoln could not get Douglas to agree to debates until Lincoln harassed him at every stop that the assumed nominee, Douglas would make.
Newt promised likewise, if Hussein would not meet him for seven scheduled debates. Follow him around and comment at every event.
Ronald Reagan’s biggest mistake was in picking Bush as his running mate. I wish he had gone with Sen. Paul Laxalt (R-Nev.), reportedly his first choice.

I don't have any idea how you could say such a stupid thing. The Bush family has served this country both in war and peace. They are true Americans. You may not agree with them on all things but to say what you just said on this forum is just wrong. Wrong.
lol
Another reason to vote for Gingrich !
Go Newt!
