Romney: $40 Would Make a ‘Substantial Difference’ to American Families
The Note ^ | 12/22/2011 | Emily Friedman

LANCASTER, N.H. – Mitt Romney today said that the $40 many Americans would lose if the payroll tax holiday isn’t extended would make a “very substantial difference” to those who would be without it. “It’ll be the difference between having a meal that includes meat or just Hamburger Helper,” said Romney in an interview with ABC News’ John Berman aboard his new campaign bus in northern New Hampshire. “It could be the difference between being able to take your family to McDonald’s at the end of the week. It means the difference between being able to go to a movie or not going to a movie.” “It makes a real difference to the American people,” he said. WATCH MORE FROM THE ABC NEWS INTERVIEW WITH JOHN BERMAN ON WORLD NEWS AT 6:30 P.M. EST. Romney said that he believes both Republicans and Democrats need to “sit down and work out” a deal regarding the payroll tax extension, and that it was time to “put the sausage in the sausage grinder and come out with a bill that provides an ongoing payroll tax holiday.”

The >$400/mo debt the Obama is burdening us with is a far greater issue than the $40 addressed.

Here is the video of Bush using the scanner:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0fIhnboptk

The NY Times created the narrative that you have heard, about his being amazed, etc...and the rest is history.

However, other people there say he was being polite, acting interested, and actually seemed bored. The demonstration, by the way, was an upgraded technology, which could read damaged bar codes, and had the introduction of the scale. If you look at a still photo of the event, there are signs in front of two scanners...ready for a side by side try-out.

The episode did not occur in a random grocery store either. It was an exhibit set up at a grocer’s convention...another indication that this particular scanner was indeed new technology, with some sort of bell and whistle worth buying booth space to show it off.

I’m no apologist for Bush...I just hate it when some BS media storyline becomes historical fact. It was campaign season. Bush made a stop, acted interested in what the locals were showing him, and moved on. Thats the real story of Bush and the bar code scanner.

yeah, well, gingrich said the same damn thing: the House Republicans have to eat it.

I disagree—this whole “tax cut” thing is a farce, as Rush (and, not to be boastful *I*) have been saying for a long time.

The communica tions ability of the Republicans has to get better. And the Senators have to grow some BALLS.

McConnell could have refused to go along: “Hey, why are we saddling new home buyers with $6,000 more debt to pay for the Social Security funding?” would have been a great question and reason to keep the Senate in session and debating this crap.

We are where we are on this stupid issue not because Republicans are wrong—they’re right to want to stop this nonsense. They just don’t know how to street fight Hussein and his asslickers in the media and on Capitol Hill.

They have to learn: do not trust Hussein, do not give him any quarter, and get in his face.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Hussein and his cult are like the scorpion on the back of the frog....

that $40 is better used in the SS system where it is designated to go by law. A law that is disregarded by Obama and the Congressmen and Senators who votes “Aye.”

As I understand it, the payroll tax is the only source of funding for SS. Such being the case the SS system will go bust long before originally stated.

I used to eat that stuff in the 70s.

Then I got married and was no longer allowed to do much, if any, cooking ('cept for being handed stuff to grille).

(I'm not complaining - one is allowed to drink beer while grilling)

McConnell could have refused to go along:
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
The ONLY way to get through to these POLS is - When the Government is ‘supposedly’ shut down, start with Capitol Hill and let it trickle down.
If they want to ‘fund something’ with others money, DIP into the Congressional Retirement Fund first.

Hell, they LIED about the LOCK box now they want to steal the BOX to ...... s/s.

"I want my muffler"

GOOD point!

I like my mufflers made from 400 series Stainless Steel and to have low restriction.

Dang, you're right! I didn't realize it's been around that long. From Wikipedia:

History

Hamburger Helper was first introduced in 1971. In 2005, the American-based Food Network listed Hamburger Helper as number three in its list of the top five fad foods of the 1970s.
Man, I feel old...

$40 is 1/250th of a $10,000 bet.

Under Barack Obama’s administration, that same $40 would fund the federal government for about 3 ten-thousanths of a second.
