This is in many ways an atypical article for me to post, as my forte is not economics and I am not a libertarian (and certainly not an "old right" palaeolibertarian). However, this article's tracing the history of progressivism touches on many of my favorite themes: the Old Eastern Establishment and anti-Eastern populists' implication in progressivism, as well as Hamiltonianism vs. Jeffersonianism. For that reason I post this article.

Well, thanks for posting it - it’s a good historical article that sheds light on the origin of many of todays’ conflicts.

While many equate Progressivism with Liberalism, that certainly was not the case initially, nor is it today. There is certainly an ongoing battle between Populism and Statism, which tends to fall along current party line divisions. But as one who does lean Libertarian on many issues, I often feel the conflict between getting government out of the picture, and trying to use it to accelerate desired change. Learning from our history is always a good thing.

There’s a lot of good things in this article, it seems well researched and thought out. I do disagree with one thing. Progressivism never left us. They just put on new clothes and started calling themselves liberals. What they’ve been doing since Theodore Roosevelt and Wilson’s day is the continuation of a 100 year plan.
