It’s not Romney who is speaking. It’s his surrogates.

Which makes Romney a coward.

“Sorry to hear this. I was hoping Newt would gut this fish.”

Actually, we should be glad he's made this jesture. His rising to “Slick Willard's” bait was a mistake. Prior to this incident, Newt had stayed on message that the enemy was Obama and not his opponents. Romney is sleazy, but then we all knew that going in!

I believe a good share of the vitriol being tossed around here is done so by false conservatives looking to prolong and exacerbate the temporary divisions caused by the primary process...What's worse, our failure will have disastrous consequences for our country.

Although by nature I'm loath to cast aspersions, the conclusion is becoming inescapable that the uber-conservatives here that are too pure to support the "RINO" Newt are nothing more or less than Agent Provocateurs intent on undermining the opposition against Obama by dividing the right.

So, you think it’s ok to have just 4 more years with Obama?

Brilliant, bumpkin.

I don’t want four more years of Obama. That’s why it is crucial that we beat Romney AND McNewt. Let’s pick a conservative candidate instead. America is begging for conservative leadership, yet all the GOP is willing to offer is rehashed progressive government-is-the-answer BS.

Some of the obsessive vile hatred towards Gingrich has spilled out towards fellow FReepers.

I don't hate Gingrich. I hate his platform. Granting amnesty to illegals, addressing global warming, and replacing ObamaCare with ObamaCare-lite aren't exactly the conservative positions I am looking for in a candidate. I think I'll pass on Newt and vote for someone who more closely shares my views.

Please state the person that is better than Gingrich, who actually has a chance.

The only balanced budget in our lifetime - FOUR YEARS in a row,
The first Conservative majority in 4 decades,
The only entitlement reform evah,

I’ll take my chances with Newt. I will go to the polls with absolute glee to vote for ANY ONE of our candates on election day to throw the communist out of our white house.

Had to throw in that last qualifier, eh? Right now, no one has a chance as long as Republicans act out of fear with the false belief that Newt Gingrich is the only candidate that can beat Romney. We have already seen that this is not the case. Throughout this campaign, Romney has gained zero ground. If we get behind a conservative candidate, we can pick up all the non-Romney votes.

If you ask me the person who is better than Gingrich, then I would answer 'Rick Santorum'. But we first need to recognize Gingrich for who he really is and Romney for who he will never be.

Well, yeah, you need to come up with somebody better than Gingrich (Santorum’s not it btw) that is over 3% in the polls.

Still waiting.

Name the person better than Gingrich, who actually has a chance to win.

I’m sure that many Republicans will march to the polls and vote for Newt Gingrich. The catch is who isn’t going to show up on election day. I will never vote for Newt Gingrich.

It won’t be just Newt though running on election day. Newt will be at the head of a ticket that will include hundreds of state, local, and congressional races all across the country.

To see what happens when the GOP nominates a worthless pro-amnesty RINO look no further than Juan McCain in 2008 who lost Indiana, Iowa, North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, Nevada, New Mexico, and Colorado to Obama.

McCain was destroyed among Hispanics in spite of his record of pandering to them. His position on amnesty allowed Obama to win a greater position of the White vote than John Kerry. Conservative disillusionment depressed turnout in key swing states like North Carolina and Virginia.

“I will never vote for Newt Gingrich.”

Pollsters calculate the fringer 1%’rs...you guys are already baked in the cake.

So, your purity protest is meaningless as real conservatives go about the business of kicking Obama to the curb.

It never occurred to me that we find ourselves of having to choose between Romney or Newt. Romney is objectively better on immigration than Newt. At least Romney doesn’t support amnesty for illegal aliens.

The argument against Romney for months was that he is a “flip flopper.” Well, Newt has been married three times. In a race between Obama and Newt, Barack Hussein Obama can credibly run as the family values candidate. The same people who are backing Newt were on “The Cain Train” until it came out that Cain had been cheating on his wife for 13 years.

Newt went on national television with Nancy Pelosi to endorse the theory of global warming. He cosponsored hundreds of bills with Nancy Pelosi. And let’s not forget that Newt imploded in the 1990s and presided over the failed “Republican Revolution” of 1994.

America is begging for conservative leadership...

No, America is begging for leadership, but not necessarily conservative. If that were true, then Barack Obama would not be in office. Sometimes this forum becomes an echo chamber and we think that those who lean conservative in this country, which the majority do, think the way we do. They don't. They may lean conservative, but they are not conservatives, at least in the way we understand it. Again, we wouldn't have Barack Obama in office if that weren't true.

Right now, people want a leader, without all the Obama bullsh*t. Newt is the best person for that job amongst all the candidates, and he's getting a lot of attention from the independents.

Contrary to what anyone may believe otherwise, there is only one thing that the Democrats are afraid of: Conservatives, or the republican base, organizing around a single candidate, especially if that candidate has the support of independents, which is quite clear from the polls that he does.

But whoever the Republican candidate is, he'll likely have some significant support among independents compared to Obama in the general election.

No matter which scenario plays out and who becomes the Republican candidate, the threat to the Democrats will remain to be whether we organize or not.

The country is literally in our hands and we have it within our power to remove Barack Obama from office. They know that, and they ar scared to death that we will set aside our pride and realize it.

Right now, the only that stands in the way of obtaining the White House, is Conservative pride. Their hope is that we stay fractured, and wll do everything in their power to see that it stays that way.

Yes, I do.

I say this as someone who writes regularly about immigration four to five times a week. From our perspective, Obama is preferable to Newt because he gets all the blame for his destructive policies and creates resistance which generates substantial victories for us in Congress and the states.

(1) According to Tom Tancredo, Newt Gingrich personally sabotaged the last push for real federal immigration reform in 1994-1995.

(2) Newt supports amnesty for illegal aliens. In fact, the DNC has released a video which uses Newt as their mouthpiece to attack Romney on immigration.

(3) Newt voted for the 1986 IRCA amnesty which resulted in the loss of California to the Democrats.

(4) Newt Gingrich has supported the DREAM Act in the past.

(5) Newt has a D- on immigration from NumbersUSA indicating a sorry track record. Rick Perry is better than Newt on immigration.

(6) Here is our savior Newt:
