Several Likud ministers oppose a bill proposed by MK Anastasia Michaeli (Israel is Our Home) for limiting the noise from mosque minarets. As a result, the bill did not come up for a vote in the Ministerial Committee for Legislation Sunday, and its fate is unclear.
Lack of support in the ministerial committee usually spells doom for Knesset bills.
Ministers Dan Meridor, Michael Eitan, Limor Livnat and Benny Begin are reportedly opposed to the law, which leftists call "the law for muzzling Muezzins," and ministers Gideon Saar and Moshe Cachlon are reportedly also expected to vote against it.
Unnamed sources in Likud were even quoted as saying, "What about the noise that emanates from churches and synagogues? Shouldn't that be taken care of as well?"
Throughout Israel, mosques employ loudspeakers to broadcast the muezzin's calls to prayer, usually in blatant violation of noise pollution laws. The most problematic call to prayer, in this respect, is the pre-dawn call, that often begins at 3:45 a.m. and can continue until 5:00.

Sure. If churches or synagogues have a 3:45 a.m. loudspeaker bellowing at deciblage off the scale, they should be stopped, too. Next idiotic objection?
And Likud is the “right wing” party... Their self-haters are even more nauseating than GOP RINOs.
They’re RINOs. Right-wing In Name Only. I intend to join Ihud Leumi as soon as I figure out how.
Why don’t the citizens demand that the police enforce noise pollution laws?
The police are unresponsive, so the citizens have given up. I hear that once someone changed the tape recording in the Dome of the Rock to one of Breslover Chassidim singing Na Nach...
How brave of them to do such a thing.
It’s a nuisance, really. Nothing more nor less. In Hebron nearer to a mosque, it’s monstrous. But I live a few kliks away, so only hear them from a distance.
I understand your point. But to the Jewish people who live very near the mosque I feel for them because it must really try their souls to have to hear the satanic call to prayer so early in the morning. It is so plaintive and mournful. It has never sounded like a peaceful and joyful call to me. And I would think God would want us to come to him with a mind of peace and joy.
Then again, this is Islam we’re talking about. And on every point, it is not known for peace, joy or reason.
It’s a huge improvement, all things considered, over the year-and-a-half immediately after Bibi turned 97% of Hebron over to PA control. Back then, they had to have sand bags in front of their windows. Hadassah Tehiyah, age six months, was shot dead in her stroller. It took the deaths of 24 IDF and their commander to retake all the high ground and put a stop to the constant rifle fire. Compared to that, hearing the Tawheed every morning is like living next to a subway train. You get used to it.
Yes. And you live there. I don't. The muezzin is just a symbol of the evil that wishes to swallow up Israel whole. The tensions have been escalating recently, according to what I've been reading in our press. I imagine it is worse than what our liberal press is telling us. So, I am thankful for the information that you share.
I do like Netanyahu, but I think he's in a tenuous position. I wish his party was stronger. I think the push of political correctness by design makes everything more convoluted and difficult. Simply put, when truth is obscured, evil wins every time.
God triumphs and so do we when we seek the truth on every front.
