Newt Gingrich’s Battle with the GOP ‘Establishment’
Time Magazine ^ | December 6, 2011 | Jay Newton-Small

Posted on 12/07/2011 1:14:39 PM PST by Jabba the Nutt

On Tuesday morning, former Vice President Dan Quayle endorsed Mitt Romney, as did California Congressmen Jerry Lewis, Ken Calvert and Brian Bilbray. On Monday morning, Tennessee Congressmen Jimmy Duncan, Diane Black and Phil Roe announced their support. In the past month Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, New Hampshire’s Kelly Ayotte and John Thune of South Dakota have endorsed the former Massachusetts governor, as have 28 officials from Missouri, 15 from New Hampshire, 19 from Indiana, eight Nevada state senators, former Senator John Danforth, former Iowa Gov. Robert Ray and Representatives Charlie Bass of New Hampshire, Illinois’s Robert Dold and Pennsylvania’s Jim Gerlach. If there is a GOP establishment left after 2010′s Tea Party revolution, it is backing Mitt Romney.

Here's the money quote:

"“There is no effective GOP establishment left. There are folks who act like they are in charge but Republican voters don’t trust and aren’t listening to much of what the old establishment says. Dean Wormer can’t control campus anymore,” says GOP strategist Matt Dowd, citing the iconic movie Animal House. “The fraternity is in charge.”"

The liberal establishment is looking askance at the Republican Establishment: 'You can't control your boys anymore. You're worthless.' This is bad news for the suck up crew at the RNC and other RINO strongholds. They're not even going to get the crumbs off the table anymore nor get invites to the beltway cocktail parties or given credibility by the Establishment (capital E establishment).

And the RINO's get tagged as Dean Wormer, the sneaky, backstabbing, 'double-secret probation' worm of a Dean.

I never thought I'd say that Time got something right, they certainly got the RINO's nailed.

Newton Leroy Gingrich has BOTH the Democratic and Republican establishment politicians wetting their panties!!

This just might be our guy for next November. He isn’t perfect, but hey! What candidate has ever been perfect. I want someone with principles but I will be satisfied with a President who puts America and Americans first.

Gingrich looking better everyday. He’s not perfect, (aka...like Jesus Christ) nor does he have his cute blonde wife on TV to spin him into an exciting man (like RINO ROMNEY).

Just the fact that Ann Colter is pushing Romney like a dealer pushing crack to an addict, makes Newt the guy for me.

Get to the polling places when its your turn. Who freakin cares what the GOP elites want? It’s OUR Country...and we’re taking it and the Republican party back!

The more the establishment dishes Newt, the more ordinary Americans will support him. Interesting, I think some FR are warming up to Newt just because RINOs and the establishment is against him.

The article makes the point that this RINO attack on Newt actually gives Newt credibility with the Delta’s, er, GOP base, Tea Party, etc.

The doubt I have about Newt, make that one of the doubts I have, is that I feel he is too tied to the Federal Government and will not have the balls, ruthlessness or spine needed to reduce the size, scope and power of the Federal Government. He needs to prove this. Because, like Romney, Newt thinks he can manage society (us, our country) from the top down with the right programs.

Another doubt is that Newt turned out to be a good tactical politician, winning the majority with the Contract with America, but he had zero strategic vision. Which is why Clinton pounded Newt like a whack-a-mole game.

Interesting quote. I have to admit that much of my decision-making process involving choosing candidates has more to do with which choice is most likely to be a visceral kick in the teeth toward the GOP establishment. After their cowardly unwillingness to help out Palin when she really needed defending, along with their condescending dismissal of the Tea Party, I’ve grown to really despise them almost as much as Obama.

If Lisa MurCOWski endorsed him he sucks, you can believe that.

I can’t think of anyone worsefor an endorsement, but the woman who inherited her job and got re-elected by Democrats.

Gingrich/Perry is beginning to sound substantive.

Even though they are both Southerners - Newt has been tested in the high altitude of DC while Rick still maintains down to earth rural roots.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm think I’ll give it a whirl on the tagline;)

Newt doesn’t need Perry to help take TX. Look for him to take a Gov from a swing state...Martinez in NM or McDonnell of VA

The party hacks have decided it’s Mitt’s turn. They really don’t want any changes, which is why they are touting what a great “manager” Myth is. Whether he wins or loses is secondary to keeping their power and perks. The truth is they don’t care if Obama gets another four years, as long as they have control of spending the money. If we proles dare to nominate someone else, he can expect the Christine O’Donnell treatment.

Gingrich/Perry is beginning to sound substantive.

Perry said on CNN today - why would I rather be Vice President than the Governor of Texas? He said the vice president position was as bad as "a warm bucket of spit". I just don't see it happening.

Ah-ha. So it’s not what he can do for his country - but what Texas can do for him.

Hmmmmmmmmmm interesting.

I think his point was that he would rather be governing, than going to funerals.
