Heres another Pew statistic for you... For at least 10 years 45%-55% of Hispanic citizens have favored strict enforcement of current immigration law. Does that make sense to you? Bottom line... A very large majority of Hispanics want European Socialism. That is their Number One political issue. Not abortion. Not immigration. Your idea that we can convert them to Conservatives is a catastrophic political fantasy.
I am not really sure what your point is here. I favor enforcing the laws and sealing the border, same as the Gingrich plan. I don't accept the idea that a large percentage of Hispanics want European Socialism, based on the fact that so many of them are willing to take shit jobs for no pay just so their kids can get an education and have a better chance in life than they did. From what I can tell, and based on my experience with them, that's what it's about for them. But they really are afraid that a radical conservative is going to come in and start deporting as many of them as possible. And they believe that there is an undelying current of racism in that desire, because we have not been doing a good enough job of agreeing on our own message, and then getting that message out.
That's not saying much.
We're not going to get illegal immigration stopped until we wise up and remove all of the incentives to come here illegally. It doesn't matter how "humanely" you treat some illegals. That's merely adding another incentive to break our laws.
Cut off all access to state and federal welfare benefits.
Cut off all access to food stamps.
Cut off all access to free medical care (outside of life and death emergencies)
Cut off all access to subsidized housing benefits.
Cut off all access to free public school education for their children.
Cut off all access to state and federal tax refunds via the use of employee identification numbers.
Cut off all access to employment through the use of the E-Verify system.
Implement these simple, legal measures, and they will self-deport in a human tsunami.
The first candidate who puts this idea on the table, and pounds it relentlessly, will shoot up in the polls.
Simple.
A very large majority of Hispanics support the basic political principles of the Democratic Party.
False.
What happened 25-years ago:
Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986
Signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on November 6, 1986
In brief the act:
required employers to attest to their employees' immigration status.
made it illegal to knowingly hire or recruit unauthorized immigrants.
granted amnesty to certain seasonal agricultural illegal immigrants.
granted amnesty to illegal immigrants who entered the United States before January 1, 1982 and had resided there continuously.
Such as?
Oh? Come walk a mile in my shoes. I rub elbows with illegals working for cheap (and under the table) in the construction trades every day. They can't survive here on that meager pay, and depend on state and federal freebies to make up the difference.
Take away those freebies, and deny them access to jobs, and they will have to return to their home countries.
Now prove that logic wrong, or sit down.
If the choice is between Newt Gingrich and Barack Obama, I would rather see Obama get reelected. I think Obama would be better on immigration and that is saying something.
LOL...I'll give it to Newt. I like how he is the only one who stand by that pretty faithfully.
Hear! Hear! Well said.
He’s pandering, plain and simple.
I am tired of all the catering and caving to ethnic minorities, especially ones who have blatantly broken our laws.
The illegals are the ones who have torn apart their own families. Our laws have not done this and Newt knows it.
There is a subtle racism in giving preferential treatment to an ethnic group, as if patronizingly acknowledging they are not capable of more honest, ethical behavior.
Here in Seattle, immigrants receive government benefits at three times the rate of native born residents.
I have more, much more.
Instead, consider this...
I will vote for Newt if he is the nominee.
I donated to one of his PAC’s in the 1990’s.
I have voted for every GOP presidential candidate since 1968.
OK?
However, this is a democracy, and voters are the critical currency of our political system.
Don't ask me to calmly watch the Republican Party and Conservatives commit mathematical suicide.
We admit 1 million new immigrant citizens each year.
800,000 of them will vote for the Democratic Party.
This is an existential threat to American Conservatives.
If you don't understand that, I don't know what else to say.
No freakin idea. I am hoping Zombie Reagan gets in.
Didn't know you were trying to communicate with a twelve year-old nose picker, did you? FR's only annoying fatal error is letting these infants post like they were real people.
I’m aware of the Bracero program, and THAT is not what I’m talking about.
Well, I'll make sure to run any future humorous comments by you first, Your Highness.
Plenty of Irish, Italians, Poles, Ukrainians, and Russians jumped ship in New York harbor rather than risk being returned to their mother country.
We are a better country for having so many immigrants come here. My Irish Great-grandfather came here by himself when he was only 12! He settled in Boston and became a wonderful citizen and even finished high school!
I personally know many Mexicans who are here illegally. They are hard-working, law abiding (except for the illegal entry thing), and make a wonderful contribution to our society. Their children are focused on education and hold their family values. These are the kind of illegal immigrants I want to see stay here. They are an asset and not sucking at the public trough like way too many of our “citizens”.
Newt is right, there is no way however many millions of illegals will ever be deported. I like his idea on immigration. At least HE has put forth a real plan, which is more than anyone else can say.
I also like that Newt doesn’t hedge when asked a question, particularly in the debates. He always gives an answer even if it is not the “politically correct” one.
Newt’s got some great ideas on governance... but I can’t see how he’d shrink the size and scope of the federal government.
It just doesn’t seem to be in his nature.
