Dangerous neighborhood, and the police took his gun. Everyone should have a backup or a friend who will provide one. You should not be disarmed after having to defend yourself. Criminals have associates, relatives, and gang members who might be looking for revenge.

While will it me a while or “some time” before he gets his gun back?

1) Is it his gun legally?
2) Was this the gun that shot the perp?
3) Did he shoot the gun?
4) Was he acting in self defense?

Is the gun evidence to be kept for a potential trial?

They should purchase the weapon from him for $1,000. Then they can keep it.

*Police took the gun and said it could be a while until he gets it back*

This doesn’t sound like a good plan. Maybe it’s part of police procedure.
Even worse is the fact that the paper announces that the victim is now unarmed.

It's important to have more than one gun, and in more than one place. At minimum, you should have two guns at home, plus a third you keep either at your parents house or in a bank safety deposit box. The reason for the third is that if you are involved in a shooting at home, the cops may demand all the guns in the house (I have read of instances where it happened).

Fairhaven ain’t the most family oriented part of the world. I’ve lived in CT near New Haven all my life, and I don’t think I’ve EVER been there.

Looks to me like the perp waved something like a Ruger .22 at the owner and fired it before being taken out. Also looks like the owner had good presence of mind and maneuvered well to gain the advantage.

If he hasn’t been charged with a a crime, I would expect he is free to buy a replacement weapon. This time, choose a .45, buddy.

Sent the link to the article to Drudge with the comment: “Another case of firearms used for self defense ignored by the MSM”

If we send enough of these, there’s the possibility that Drudge will pick up on it and start routinely reporting them, since the MSM refuses to do so, and he likes tweaking them.
