It won’t last long as the conservative base actually becomes aware of Newt’s sordid history where conservatism is concerned.

Yes, and after that they will suddenly discover the world is round. Cause you know, they didn’t know that, either......

You must mean this record:
  1. Led the "Republican Revolution" that put Republicans in control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years.

  2. Came up with the Contract for America and met the promise that every single provision would see a vote on the floor. Not all of it was enacted, but that was never the promise.

  3. First balanced budget in decades then balanced the budget for four consecutive years.

  4. Forced Clinton to accept tax cuts including the largest capital gains tax-cut in history.

  5. Forced Clinton to accept the huge restructuring of Welfare turning it into "Workfare."

  6. Got the Congressional Accountability Act passed that required Congress to abide by the same laws as private businesses.

You mean that "sordid history where conservatism is concerned?" You mean the fact that of all the candidates, Newt is the ONLY one who has actually accomplished what the others keep claiming they want to do? [Perry and Huntsman have accomplished some of it on a state level]

    Yeah, that's really "sordid"--if you are a liberal. /rolleyes

Here’s an interesting take on falty perceptions of politicians:

“You must choose between two candidates for president.

One candidate smokes heavily, drinks heavily, admits to using drugs in college, and is very overweight.

The second candidate doesn’t smoke, only drinks the occasional beer, is physically fit, and is a decorated war hero. Which do you choose?

The punch line?

The first candidate is Winston Churchill.

The second is Adolf Hitler. “

I disagree, I think Gingrich is a known commodity, and is still “more acceptable” than Romney at this point. Bachmann, Perry, and Cain were all candidates that have caught the attention of the conservatives in the GOP. After all of the rise and fall, I think conservatives are just at the point of Buckley: pick the most conservative candidate that can win. Gingrich looks to have put himself in the right place at the right time.

34 days til Iowa. Time is quickly running out.

Where are they gonna go???? I had high hopes for Herman but put a fork in him; he's done. Even if all the allegations are lies; he's done. Or to Perry who's dumb as a coal bucket? Latest gaffe, he didn't know the voting age was 18 (Greta / FOX 11-29-11). Or kooky Ron Paul who wants to sing "Cumbya" with Iran? Or Michele (I'll kick my opponents when they're down for political gain when I don't know the difference in John Wayne the actor and John Wayne Gayce the child molester.) Bachmann? Or one of the two Mormon RINOs? That only leaves Santorum and bless his heart, he's gotten no traction in this race. Possibly because he was defeated by 19 percentage points in his Senate reelection bid, and he has the charisma of a foot stool. So, tell me; where are they gonna go, SoConPubbie?

What it does show, without question, is that ANY candidate is preferable to Romney, and that people will enthusiastically support the non-Romney. At some point-—and I don’t know if it’s Newt-—conservatives are going to have to decide if stopping Romney is more important than finding the perfect conservative candidate.

Everything about Newt is known - the MSM hates him and wants someone easier to beat. That means they don't have new stuff on him. They've already dragged out what they know...reheated it, repackaged it and it's still not taking him down.

They'll keep looking - they couldn't find Chicago on a map a few years ago, but they'll damn sure be able to find anything and anyone who can hurt Newt. Just like they did with Sarah... they're silence means they've got nothing. Just old stuff.

Also, Newt's NOT Romney - which is VERY important to many of us...
