Cain accuser says he's not fit to be president
The Hill ^ | November 30, 2011 | Jonathan Easley

Posted on 11/30/2011 5:37:30 AM PST by maggief

In what could be a devastating blow to Herman Cain’s Republican presidential bid, Atlanta businesswoman Ginger White gave an interview to Good Morning America on Wednesday in which she divulged new details of her alleged 13-year-long affair with the candidate and panned Cain's suitability to be president.

“I can’t make this up,” White said. “And frankly speaking, I wouldn’t want to make this up.”

White said that Cain took her to a Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield boxing match in the late 1990s, and said that the former president of the National Restaurant Association had given her money for “the last two and a half years consistently,” but that the money was “not sex for cash.”

White had previously alleged that Cain would fly her across the country and lavish her with gifts and expensive dinners. Cain denied the story, although White provided Fox 5 Atlanta, which broke her story, with phone and text-messaging records that detail dozens of correspondences — some very late at night — between White and Cain.

Cain claims White is looking to take advantage of their friendship for personal gain.

“I’m not sure what’s going on in his head right now,” White responded on Wednesday. “But it’s unfortunate that any of this is going on.”

White was asked if she thought Cain was fit to be president. “In my opinion, no I do not,” she said.

“I honestly do not think that he is, in my opinion, would make a good president, as far as I’m concerned. My views are different from his views, but at the end of the day this is not political – this is absolutely not political and I’ve never tried to make it out to be that,” said White.

I have been a Cain supporter. I weathered the payoffs to the women claiming he harassed them. It seemed to blow over, but did damage his standing in the polls. He has been on a backslide. When this story broke, we got relatively two different disjointed responses. One from his lawyer which didn’t refute the claims, and one of denial saying he was helping her financially. If she was in need of a financial boost based on impending evictions, he should have got her in touch with the church and not “personally” tried to help as he claimed. I question judgement here. Look, I am just frustrated. Where does this go now? Even if completely innocuous, it still rubs me the wrong way. If he was in fact helping her “financially”, he didn’t do a very good job because she was still evicted.

Can we argue all day? I can’t ... I’ve gotta do housework, darn it.

But you accused me to jumping to conclusions about Cain because I was prejudiced against him or because I was for another candidate.

I proved to you that I did not ... that I supported him originally. (and I do have proof)

Now you’re saying I’m tearing him apart. I am not. He’s done that to himself.

I don’t think there is any proof that you people will believe.

Interesting comment.

You condemn him for helping her financially.

And then condemn him for not giving her enough money to prevent eviction.

Cain doesn’t have a chance against that kind of logic. Damned if he does, damned if he does not.

“I’m not a Cain supporter but,”

I am not a Cain supporter either and I know that Herman Cain would never lift a finger to set the record straight if my candidate was wrongly accused of anything. In fact, his camp went out of their way to viciously blame Perry’s camp for planting news about the last bimbo eruptions. It was clear from the beginning that these things are Democrat tactics. If you remember the last minute red panties with Bush and the leak of a one night stand with Palin; the suggestion the Bush the elder was involved in a life-long affair: and on and on. I don’t recall any of those camps demanding other candidates take a stand against the rumors.

All of that said, the timing and content of these charges by Ms White are suspect. All the finger-pointers appear to be needy beyond credibility. How can so many be associated with Cain’s time at the restaurant association and no other time? The calls on her cell phone are interesting. I have often heard of talk show hosts giving their personal cell phone numbers to favorite callers to talk off the air. I wonder if the radio show archives could pinpoint any calls to Mr Cain’s radio show from this lady. Speculating, but maybe that’s how she got his number. Speculating, but maybe he just liked her and wanted to help her.
At any rate, it stinks, but Mr Cain’s message is only to the choir forevermore. He can’t win with only votes from the choir. Ron Paul’s choir is far better organized and more devoted. Although Caniacs love Cain’s message, the goal is to beat Obama...not salvage Cain’s limping bid for the presidency that he can’t win. Those of us who support someone else have to deal with negatives all the time. We try not blame anyone else when it’s obvious our candidate put himself in a bad position....like not knowing the voting age. :(

We can’t accuse her of being a prostitute if we are also saying Cain is telling the truth. Well, I guess we CAN, but it’s not very logical.

Sure it is. She's making the claim herself, there was sex and there was cash. It's entirely reasonable to infer a connection and say she is claiming she committed prostitution. Burden of proof on her to demonstrate otherwise.

I want Cain out of the race on merit (or technically, lack of merit); not at the signal of some floozy with a previous libel judgment against her. She needs another lawsuit on her.

Some peoples day starts earlier or ends later. By the way, I think the claim was 4 something, not 3am.

There is a whole picture to be put in focus and that is what I am doing. There were payoffs to women who claimed he harassed them in the past. This women seems jilted in a sense based on his response to those, why? She said she came forward because of the accusations from the paid off ones. Well, we know she was sought out more than likely, but once again listen to his response to this one. What if some of those odd hour texts and calls are to her rather than from her? What will people say then? Maybe they are giving him enough rope to hang himself publicly? Something isn’t sitting right with the whole picture. Needless to say, the damage is done and it’s time to really move on. He was unfortunately sliding fast before any of this came out.

I liked Cain early on, and hoped that he could take the heat of the process. Alas, I am afraid his crust has been cooked.

What really hits home here, however, is how far the people on the Cain Train are willing to bend over to dismiss what now appears to be a major character flaw. If this was any of the other candidates, be it Mitt, Newt, Michelle, or (heaven forbid) Rick Perry, this board would be exploding with negative comments about how inept they are. In the process of eating our own, we seem to have lost sight of the objective - which is to defeat Obama.

Her story about the affair was very credible and she has (according to Fox News this morning) over 80 text messages from (or to and from) Cain.

I have known too many folks with this nasty adultery 'issue'. 13 years, 80 text messages. One of my best friends was caught messing around with a married woman, and they contacted each other at every turn, every possible moment. Another person I know had to cancel his detailed cell phone bill because it showed hundreds of contacts (calls/texts) a month. So many women, so many accusations, it does wear us down. I wonder what is really going on. But this little 13 years/80-text-messages fact leads me to think less of the accusers statement than more...

No, 4 months and at least 61 text messages and phone calls.

While you’re going around insulting fellow freepers, maybe you’d take a moment to ask for proof from these checkered women.
Claims aren’t enough, and a thirteen year affair should have evidence all over the place.
You either want to believe this, or you’re gullable.

I agree with everything you’ve said.

I was a Cain supporter before most people even knew who he was. Months ago co-workers asked me who I liked in the race and when I replied Cain, they always said, who?

I’m looking at the other options now with a more open mind, just in case. It’s the responsible thing to do.

And just for the record, you are not evil. I reserve the term evil for pedophiles, murderers, and the person who is currently trying to destroy my beloved country. I appreciate your comments on this thread and hope you continue to post. I enjoy learning via the exchange of thoughts and ideas ;-)

Describing this “lady” as a “business woman” is hilarious.

Doesn’t pass the smell test. A 13 year affair where White says that Herman was “flying her around” and:

1. No receipts
2. No gifts (2 books?? Please, woman.)
3. No pictures.
4. No released specific times/dates or rendezvous places.
5. No released txt messages.
(”Text messages as late as 7:50 PM” What?? OMG that’s really late.)

6. No released phone messages.
7. Cain was struggling with Stage 4 cancer 3-4 years ago. He had time for an affair? ...uhm...
8. After the cancer battle Cain’s wife was having heart issues. Cain was doing his 3-hour radio show from home so that he could be near her in case she needed him. That sounds like a man looking to have an affair, too?
9. Cain is a big-time public Atlanta celebrity and this woman lives in Atlanta and no one has seen them out together?
10. She’s totally broke. Currently being evicted. But Cain, like, totally supports her financially? Clearly, Cain is no pimp.
11. No evidence, but her word. And the Courts have said that her word is $%^t.

This is, in my opinion, more BS. Brought to you by the same people whom have brought us lots of Cain BS lately.

What if....what if...what if.

Your posts are full of what if.

How about what if you had some facts.

As for the payoffs you keep referring to, you know very well what happens when a lawyer goes to his client and tells him that he can settle for $35,000 but a trip to court could go has high as $250,000.

He settles.

And in this case the lawyer is a lawyer for the insurance company and insurance companies rarely, if ever, go to court to prove a principle. They look at one thing only and that is the money.

And the policy says that the insured will have no say in the matter.

I know. I was in an industry for 56 years where product liability claims were rampant. Insurance companies would settle with the plaintiff any time they could do so for less than the cost of a trial and the potential for damages regardless of the merits.

So as you well know, but seem to avoid discussing, those low ball settlements mean nothing unless you have access to the actual evidence.

There again, not defending Cain, simply pointing out that condemning him on the basis of nothing more than speculation is evil.

I think Cain supporters, (present company included), are not dismissing “ a major character flaw”, but instead are very well aware of just how much of a threat Mr. Cain has turned out to be to both the Left AND to the Establishment Republican opposition.

Another poster coined the term, “Palined” sometime ago when the first of these women came forward, and Cain addressed and answered the concerns. Next came the meme that Cain was not intelligent enough, and while the cumulative effect of all of these questions did slow some of his momentum, they did NOT drive him out of the race, and people have not only stayed with him, but with each attack, more have joined him, if for no other reason than this all has laid bare the stunning bias, and agenda of the StateRunMedia.

So now it seems we are back to the women issues, and again, we Cain supporters are simply waiting for an rather important piece of the process in American justice - proof.

May God guide our course.

No, 4 months and at least 61 text messages and phone calls.

That is still a crazy-low number in my all-too-close-to-home-experience. Why don't we know what was in the text messages? The carrier has the info. She has the info. I want to see what was said. If this is proven, the man is toast...done...fini. Why sit on the text messages? If she has the goods, then she is shamelessly building interest in her book/movie/interviews. Or is she, in consideration of Herman/family, keeping the details quiet? Or, is it much ado about nothing. The truth is out there, I just wanted to point out that x number of contacts in y time frame, in my experience, is not proof of anything. Had there been hundreds, then alarms would be going off...

Ruining a person’s reputation and career based on gossip, rumors and unsupported accusations is evil.

Wait until facts that are supportable are disclosed.

That is so true.

People here are so wedded to Cain that if a video came out they’d swear it was doctored.

Loyalty is a good thing, but a little restraine and common sense are good things also.
