Colin Powell on Sunday blamed the media as well as the Tea Party for the divisive political tone in Washington.
Not surprisingly, neither the class warfare stoked by President Obama and his Party nor the resulting Occupy Wall Street movement was mentioned during this seven minute interview with Christiane Amanpour on ABC's This Week (video follows with transcript and commentary):
SNIP
POWELL: They compromised -- the Founding Fathers compromised on slavery. They had to in order to create a country. They compromised on the composition of the Senate, of the House, of the Supreme Court, of a president -- what are the president's powers? Can you imagine more difficult compromises today?
Compromise is how this country was founded, and unless two people in disagreement with each other don't find a way to reach out to one another and make compromises, you don't get a consensus that allows you to move forward.
But the Tea Party point of view of no compromise whatsoever is not a point of view that will eventually produce a presidential candidate who will win.

Every Democrat I talk to tries to say that Washington has been functioning perfectly well up until recently.
Bush v Gore in 2000? They've forgotten.
Bush v Kerry in 2004? They've forgotten.
Democrats blocking Bush on everything they could for 8 years? They've forgotten.
The destruction of Sarah Palin? They've forgotten.
Nope. Everything was copacetic until 2010 and the Tea Party ruined it all.
He chose to pander to the underclass; those who had been seduced into servitude by the progressives and had chosen dependency. He could have rallied blacks to throw off the addiction to dependency and create successful lives. He instead reinforced class warfare. If he didn't do more harm he at least missed a golden opportunity. An opportunity made available to only two men in my lifetime; Powell & Obama. Both of them failed miserably. sigh.
Colin, there must be a reason your parentz named you. You have certainly revealed yourself to be an A-hole.....Grade-A.
Just take your retirement. Nobody really listens to doddering old men anymore.
Do yourzelf a favor and hire a nurse. Its sad to see the drool on the side of your face. The nurse could follow you around wiping that embarrasimg slime off, while simultaneously feeding you Gerber....
Yuh poor stoopid bastuhd....
Doesn’t he charge 6 figures for a speech? Top 1%.
Colin seems pretty comfortable down on the plantation these days. He doesn’t even seem to feel the weight of the chains anymore.
Powell Being appointed by George Bush shows George was a moron or himself a NON-conservative.. Powell exposes Bush not Powell..
But he did throw conservatives a bone or two..
BUT then.... thats what it was...... a “bone throwing”.. exercise..
Another plantation slave carrying water for Massuh Obama.
Bush is the one that hired him. Swartzcoff was the real man behind the mission.
Well said... and right as rain....
Powell knows exactly who he is,, and isn’t...
He isn’t a brave or patriotic man..
I never realized what an idiot Powell was.
Hey, Colon, the Founding Fathers compromised with the British and were continuously screwed over for it.
They finally quit compromising.
Colin Powell is more responsible than anyone (other than GHWB, who listened to the idiot) for leaving Saddam Hussein in power. Everything that followed — the quarter million dead Shiites in the desert, the decade of IIS sponsored terrorism (including both WTC attacks), and the endless war we’re in now — Powell bears an enormous amount of responsibility for.
The man’s life has been one unmitigated disaster after another. He’s also a serial liar and an all around nasty piece of work.
I blame Powell for supporting Socialism.
“Colon Bowell”
My thoughts too—more excrement from the excretory tract of ol’ Colon, he must take multiple, huge doses of Metamucil daily.
Powell was the one who ran whining to #41 when the first pictures of the Road to Basra were broadcast. The 24th mechanized and the 82n Air Assault had the Republican Guard double flanked as they headed away from Basra and Nassariah. They were within minutes of dispensing all of hell's fury on them and 41 told Stormin' Norman to pull off and orchestrate a cease fire.
Whatever may have happened if we could have decimated them quite probably may have negated our return in 2003.
Colin Powell also knew all along who the leaker was, from his own office, in the Valerie Plame scandal. He told Armitage not to say a word to anyone, Fitzpatrick also knew it but they let the presidency twist in the wind for 18 months in a time of war (during the surge in Iraq) until they found someone to pin a bogus perjury trap on. Colin Powell is not a patriot.
