Air Force Academy Adapts To Pagans, Druids, Witches and Wiccans

Air Force Academy Adapts To Pagans, Druids, Witches and Wiccans Officials say an $80,000 Stonehenge-like worship center underscores a commitment to embrace all religions.

(Pic in URL) Cadets gather for the dedication ceremony of the Air Force Academy's Cadet Chapel Falcon Circle worship center this spring. The center serves cadets whose religions fall under the broad category of “Earth-based.” (Jerilee Bennett, (Colorado Springs) Gazette / May 3, 2011)

By Jenny Deam November 26, 2011 Reporting from Colorado Springs, Colo.— In the still of a cold November evening, a small gathering of pagans, led by two witches, begins preparations for the coming winter solstice. But these are not just any pagans, and this is not just any setting. They are future officers of the United States Air Force practicing their faith in the basement of the Air Force Academy's cadet chapel.

Their ranks are slim. According to the academy's enrollment records, only three of 4,300 cadets identified themselves as pagans, followers of an ancient religion that generally does not worship a single god and considers all things in nature interconnected.

Still, the academy this year dedicated an $80,000 outdoor worship center — a small Stonehenge-like circle of boulders with propane fire pit — high on a hill for the handful of current or future cadets whose religions fall under the broad category of "Earth-based." Those include pagans, Wiccans, druids, witches and followers of Native American faiths.

Witches in the Air Force? Chaplain Maj. Darren Duncan, branch chief of cadet faith communities at the academy, sighs. A punch line waiting to happen, and he's heard all the broom jokes.

Homosexuals, Pagan Gods, Women in the Military being encouraged to have abortions.............They’re turning the Military to into one giant experiment in sin, which won’t end well.

Well, it's only money, and there's more where that came from.

This is but the latest example of why those who say defense spending cannot be cut are full of it.

*sigh*

But really, the only relevant question is, do they do the job they're in the Academy to do? If so, fine. If not, out on their ear, along with cadets of any other religion or non-religion who fail to meet the standards. Zen Buddhists, Shintoists, Hindus, African tribals, Mayans, atheists, whatever... Christianity is the majority religion in this country but I don't think anyone on FR wants to make it the official state religion requirement.

Last I knew, religious affiliation was irrelevant to performing the duties of an Air Force cadet. Has that changed?

I don’t think they’ll ever come up with a single cadet who is into any so called “Earth based” religion.

Pure PC bull crap.

$80,000 is excessive for a worship center for any nature-based religion I've ever heard of.

How about spending $50 on a couple of buckets of blue paint, and let them paint themselves and have a circle under the moonlight?

Perhaps after we get that warlock out of the White House, we can start on taking our country back?

I'm waiting for a full-blooded Aztec to demand a pyramid be built so he could cut the hearts out of his captured enemies on an altar at the top. Suddenly a long stay at Gitmo doesn't seem so bad.

I wouldn't be too sure. While the majority of modern pagans are pacifist tree-huggers, there are exceptions. And certainly, the real original Druids were plenty bloodthirsty -- they had little in common with the stereotypical modern ones.

The real practitioners would have no qualms at all about climbing into an F-18 and bombing the crap out of the enemy. And there are some modern ones who feel the same. Not the majority, but a few.

Built with tools accquired through the military purchase system.

Funny, I thought the Halloween season was over. What will they do with the airmen who claim to be vampires and wish to partake of human blood each meal?

The Marxist Left’s campaigning for their invented religion “Multiculturalism,” was the calculated political wedge for “legitimizing” and getting academics, then government agencies to fawn over both Islamicism and homosexuality. What the two movements have in common is their fundamental undermining of the core civilizing values of Western civilization.

The last time I checked, America was founded and design by Christian principles. Our Constitution, as well as every state Constitution invokes the name of God Almighty. Our public officials, until recently, have been swearing an oath by God’s Word, the Bible.

It stands to reason that our military forces, whose soldiers risk their lives to protect our liberty, should have a chaplain was well as a chapel to console and support them.
