Posters are hammering Brownback but none seem to care about the behavior and language of this teenager. Had I done such a thing, my parents would have made me apologize to Brownback and the school, then I would have been grounded for weeks. Am I so behind-the-times that behavior like this is acceptable behavior and no one bats an eye?

The behavior of the child is the responsibility of the parents. So if they decided that was appropriate I agree. However if I allow my child to make statements on twitter. That is not something the school needs to address.

I also find it frightening that several freepers thinks it's ok for a public official to get a school girl in trouble for her opinion & free speech.

A list of terms poped into my mind while reading the above excerpt.

Freedom of speach
Thought crime
Censorship
Official oppression
Schools as law enforcement

I’m sure the students have learned a lot of lessons from this incident.

I think the student has the right to say or think what they want about the gov.

That said, it is rude to tweet such things during an event and cause disruption.

Two different things and ideas.

Parents should be in charge of this behavior, but government should not. The state should have no role in a person expressing an opinion about a government official, especially an elected one. However, parents should be able to dictate the behaviors of their minor children as they see fit.

The severe restriction of 1st Amendment Rights, and in this particular case specifically targeted 1st Amendment Political Speech, under the legalism of in loco parentis authority of Education Officials is an exercise in the destruction of Individual Liberties in a failed Education System that was by design made to create lower class worker bees.

Doesn’t matter what the young woman said to Brownback as long as it wasn’t legally designated a “threat”, she has 1st Amendment Rights that exceed any in loco parentis laws of this country.

You either support the 1st Amendment and free speech and free political speech, or you don’t. You have made it clear you do not. Care to prove me wrong?
