If Newt was so good, why did he quit after 1998 after being re-elected.
So he lost his Speakership....if he was a true believer, he would have stayed and fought to get back to the top....but he took his ball and went home, where he could make money.

His “big ideas” are part of the problem. When he finally gets a bit of momentum toward changing something, he is already moving on to something else.

5 minutes after Perry (as the nominee) started debating Obama we would all be puking and wanting to shoot ourselves
Go back to Texas Perry

Being a master debater does not mean that he will be a good leader! The best I could ever accept him would be as secretary of some agency...not as President.

It is obviously true but he doesnt need to brag about it

The only way these "joint press conferences" could be called debates is to defile the English Language. That said, Newt is the best in this area and if we have true debates, I'm sure he would be the best. But are debates the end all of everything? Some posting here seem to think so. Yes, debates are important but there's a lot more to being president than debating skills.
The late William F. Buckley could have easily made a fool of any of the Republican Candidates in a debate. He was a master at debate. However he might not have been a good president because of this.
We need to nominate the candidate with the best chance of knocking off Obama.

Newt is also the sleaziest human being in the GOP field. I don't know whom he has betrayed more: women or conservatives.

Got a good chuckle out of the subject line of an email someone sent me this morning:
Newt, “a stupid man’s idea of what a smart man is.”

How did he help Reagan?
A 1980 memo from then-freshman House member Gingrich may be the original inspiration for Ronald Reagan’s “are you better off than you were four years ago?” line from a presidential debate the same year. Some think that was a game changer. You decide.

I like Newt and give her a lot of props for her bravery and ingenuity in surviving the aliens (with the help of Ripley of course) but puh-leeease- When Hudson said “Why don’t you put her in charge?” I’m sure he was being facetious.

I’m all for Newt’s rise in the polls...it’s good that we can dispense of it now, the earlier the better. Newt will never be the nominee and I’d just as soon get his 15 minutes out of the way now.

I'll agree that Newt is indeed a master debater---he can certainly debate both sides of an issue with equal intensity and seeming sincerity. However, he's been practicing and perfecting the manipulation of language for over twenty years now, and he even issued a pamphlet in 1996 explaining how to do it.
Language: A Key Mechanism of Control
Needless to say, he's fooling a lot of Conservatives now using the very same techniques he used to employ against the Rats. People need to look at his RECORD and not simply rely on his recent "debate" performances to vet him.
