Is that why the villages vilify the white man while demanding all of his money? Disgusting story but as long as the illusion of “village” life is subsidized they are captive to these isolated prisons of hopelessness. Did the “uncle” ever face justice or was he just moved to another village to rape other little boys?
That guy was gone within 2 hours when I said I was calling the state police and he never came back while we were there as teachers. I did talk to the state boys and they see this all the time from village to village. They told me if I ever see this guy in the village again to call them, he never came back. The real problem is all this child abuse did start in the govt schools, at least I believe so. We've taught in several villages, been close to Indians for 20 years, and had good Indian hunting buddies that were abused at these schools in the 50's & 60's. Most survived, but many end up abusing kids themselves as adults. The Indians hate this problem as much as we do, just can't seem to stop it.
Bottomline, it grates me to no end to think these child abusers are politically active and attempting to normalize American thoughts on child abuse as acceptable.
