AN Australian soldier has told how he shot dead the rogue Afghan soldier who killed three Diggers and wounded seven others at a morning parade in Kandahar province last month.
Corporal Nathan Searle told Fairfax Media of his role in the bloody shooting three weeks ago that killed Lance Corporal Luke Gavin, Corporal Ashley Birt, Captain Bryce Duffy and an Afghan interpreter.
"Out of all the people that were here, I was the only one who wasn't shot. They all went down," Cpl Searle said.
About 40 Australians live on the base built to block the flow of insurgents from Kandahar province into Oruzgan where most of the Australian contingent is stationed.
Cpl Searle said the Afghan soldiers had been dismissed by their commanding officer and as the Australians turned to walk back to their compound the gunfire began.
"That's when the rounds started cracking out," Cpl Searle said.
"A couple of big bursts, straight up, 20 or 30 round bursts. I had my back turned, so the rounds were coming from behind me.
"I hit the ground straight away, looked to my left and saw splashes everywhere, ripping straight past me, probably missed me by a metre.
"So I crawled to my right about three or four metres, turned back around to the direction the rounds were coming from, identified him, cocked my weapon, shot him."

Well done mate!
You can NEVER trust a muslim. NEVER. They are ALL candidates for Sudden Jihad Syndrome. I don’t care if they drink and smoke and whore for 30 years straight: the koran gives them a ticket straight to paradise if they go out killing infidels.
Hear,hear.
My brother had an Egyptian exchange officer in his officer basic course for the Army. Their class officer always had my brother behind this guy during live fire range training...... because my brother was the best shot in the class.
I’d like to see all these guys out of Afghanistan. Most of the troops are standing in place anyhow. That is the dirty little secret. We are not doing much on the ground. Might as well leave.
As far as Iraq? Protect the oil infrastructure. Take ever drop and bring it home. Sell it cheap but first pay every family that has lost someone $5,000,000. Give every soldier injured $1,000,000 then $100,000 a year forever. Tax free.
Makes perfect sense to me.
