You are incorrect.

There has been consensus of scientists for more than 150 years that rogue waves exist and it is due to constructive
interference of waves. The issue was the frequency of said waves since there is a number of forces at play: wind/sea interface, oceanic currents, Coriolis force, etc.. In the past 10 years, from satellite observations, the number of rogue waves was about 3 times what was thought from conventional models.

No need to hype.
