A respite place for our troops, vets, allies & military families!

At the FReeper Canteen!
C'mon and take a break ! Walk on over to the water cooler and lets chat. Post your thoughts, opinions, news of the day, rantings, ravings, pontificates, hypothesis, hyperboles, your soap box cause, your mantra, your baggage, your garbage, your blogging, your secrets, whatever you feel would make talk around the water cooler real interesting!
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for the various groups of animals. We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese.
However, less widely known is: a Pride of lions,
a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens),
an Exaltation of doves
and, presumably because they look so wise: a Parliament of owls.
Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates. And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons? ? ? Believe it or not......a Congress!
A CONGRESS OF BABOONS! There's a joke in there somewhere....:)

Christmas 2011 Deadlines Announced
Each year the United States Post Office (USPS) publishes a guideline for those shipping items to APO/FPO/DPO addresses at Christmas time. The military mail system is pushed to capacity during the holidays, and sending items to APO/FPO/DPO addresses by the dates suggested below give packages the best chance to make it to loved ones in time for Christmas. If you have friends or family members who will be shipping items to your APO/FPO/DPO address this Fall, you might want to ensure they know about the dealines.

Hi, ((((Connie))))
Great thread tonight! Just had me a burger and peppermint
ice cream cone at Braums a bit ago. Yum! It’s cold and drizzly
here in OKC. Ugh! Hope it’s not slick and icy in the morning
for our drive home!

(This tagline reserved for a hero.......)
A DEA officer stopped at a ranch in Texas , and talked with an old rancher.
He told the rancher, “I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs.”
The rancher said, “Okay , but don’t go in that field over there.....”, as he pointed out the location.
The DEA officer verbally exploded saying, “ Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me !”
Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher.
“See this badge?! This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish.... On any land !!
No questions asked or answers given!! Have I made myself clear......do you understand ?!!”
The rancher nodded politely, apologized, and went about his chores.
A short time later, the old rancher heard loud screams, looked up, and saw the DEA officer running for his life, being chased by the rancher’s big Santa Gertrudis bull......
With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it seemed likely that he’d sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified.
The rancher threw down his tools, ran to the fence and yelled at the top of his lungs.....
“Your badge, show him your BADGE........ ! !”
