The Right Scoop ^ | November 2, 2011

It looks like Herman Cain isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Quinnipiac has him leading Romney by seven points nationwide: Cain 30%, Romney 23%, Gingrich 10%, Perry 8% and everyone else below 7%.

South Carolina puts Cain at 10 points higher than Romney in the latest Rasmussen poll: Cain 33% Romney 23% Gingrich 15%. Rasmussen also notes: “The survey was conducted on Tuesday night following two days of media coverage concerning allegations of sexual harassment against Cain.”

So much for being the flavor of the week.

I'm thinking the campaign put out the Cain rumor might be in more trouble than Cain. The reason? Over at RedState (which is clearly in the tank for Perry) they have run several stories that point out (1) it must be Romney that dropped the rumor, and (2) there's no way it could be Perry--nope, nope, nope can't be Perry.

Erickson (who runs RedState) spent an hour on his radio show yesterday explaining why it must be the Romney campaign.

I'm not sure where the rumor originated, but it's clear from the RedState reaction that they've decided whichever campaign gets blamed for leaking it is dead.

"...everyone else below 7%."

May be time for 'everyone else' to take a hard look at whether it might be time to throw in the towel. Their campaigns are simply not gaining any traction, and it's doubtful that they'll do much better when the voting starts.
