Peshawar — The Holy Celebration Eid Ul Azha is coming on the first week of November, but there are still no buyers of cattle and buffalo at the livestock market in Peshawar.

The buffalo and cattle market, which is called Mall Mandi at Peshawar, sells mostly cattle and buffalo in the market because most of the people of KP province sacrifice cattle at Eid Ul Azha.

Daily 1500 cattle and buffalo have come through from Punjab province at Kala Mandi near G.T road and Ring Road Mandi. There are two markets of cattle and buffalo at Peshawar for Eid Ul Azha. They come mostly from Multan, Sahiwal and the Bahalpur area, that is top market of cattle and buffalo in Punjab province.

On 7 November, Eid Ul Azha will be celebrated and only 8 daysremain to Eid, but buyers couldn’t visit the market for buying the cattle and buffalo, because prices were hiked on livestock in the market. Sellers were waiting for thepeople, but so far none is forthcoming.

According to Mohammad Adnan, who visited the Mandi to buy thecattle for Eid "prices were very high and in current situation it is not easy tosacrifice at Eid Ul Azha." He said normal cattle priceare more then 700 hundreds dollars.

Asking about the price hike from a businessman of the Punjab, who is staying now in the livestock market to sell their cattle and buffalo, Aminreplied that the flood effected the livestock of Sindh Province, and that is why only fromPunjab cattle and buffalo were coming into Peshawar Market and prices are high.

700 hundred dollars for a small beef , that is one hell of a lot of money in that country. When you start printing worthless money it effects the world.

They had some very heavy flooding which killed a lot of cattle outright and starved almost as many.

OK I admit ignorance.

What holiday are they celebrating? What religion? What do you do when you "sacrifice" a whole cow? I thought cows were sacred in India?
