Media Hyperventilates Over Herman Cain Smoking Ad

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I want you to hear these sound bites. The media is going nuts over the Herman Cain ad. First, here is a montage from yesterday and last night, and the reaction, the State-Run Media hyperventilating over Herman Cain's smoking ad. It tells you so much about how insane our society has become about smoking and political correctness. There is a humorless doom-and-gloomism out there, and if you drag on cigarette, if you show a picture of somebody dragging on -- I mean Hollywood is famous, everybody in every movie it seems smokes. Have you noticed? You can't watch a Hollywood movie without somebody picking up a cigarette a number of times throughout the movie. And you never hear Chris Matthews and the rest of the media elite going nuts over that. But here's Herman Cain and his ad. Listen to this montage.

MATTHEWS: A strange ad, with smoking in it!

BEHAR: Are they going from the pro-emphysema vote here?

KING: To celebrate smoking at the end of a video I find reprehensible.

PHILLIPS: Is it cool, weird, or just inappropriate?

RUSH: Jeez!

BLITZER: He survived stage 4 colon cancer. Anyone promoting smoking, not necessarily a good idea.

HUME: What you get out of having some miscellaneous middle-aged guy smoking a cigarette and saying you're the right candidate?

GOLDBERG: You're not allowed to show people smoking.

JANSING: At the end, he’s smoking!

RUSH: They just can't believe it. That was John King, "To celebrate smoking at the end of a video I find reprehensible." Can you imagine how uptight these people's lives are? Can you imagine what it's like to be these people? I just think about how tightly wound and uptight these people are. Folks, I'm telling you this is who they are, this is a great illustration of how you have this holier-than-thou, superior bunch of people who are willing to condemn everything that you do that they disapprove of. There's no freedom. There's no living your life on your own. You're gonna be harassed if these people find out about it.

And then there's Obama. He doesn't know how much he helped us with this comment of his yesterday. (paraphrasing) "Yeah, what the Republicans are saying, if they win, you're on your own." Damn right we're on our own. Hallelujah! That's exactly what we want to be is on our own. And he's out there trying to warn people, "If the Republicans win they're basically saying you're on your own." Exactly right we're on our own. We want to be on our own. We do much better for ourselves than you do, you dolt, look what you've done. I love it.

Anyway, there's one more sound bite on this smoking business. It's from the Cain campaign. This was yesterday on Fox, Megyn Kelly talking to Herman Cain's chief of staff Mark Block about the ad, and she asked him what the message behind the ad was.

BLOCK: The message behind the ad was to our supporters that we're on a roll, we are excited about what’s happening. There was so subliminal message. In fact, I personally would encourage people not to smoke, it's just that I'm a smoker, and as a lot of the people on the staff said, "Just let Block be Block." That's what it was all about.

RUSH: Mark Block is the guy's name, just let Block be Block. I smoke, what the hell, none of your business. It was an ad. There's no secondhand smoke in an ad. If you want to talk about influencing the kids then let's talk movies and let's talk rock music, and let's talk music videos, and if you want to talk about influencing the kids, that's all just a crock.

It’s a Web ad, not a TV ad. The cheaper and often less viewed Web ads work best when they are pushing someone’s button, which is why they often do and say things you would not tempt to do on a TV spot. And this ad is doing that in spades. This ad is doing exactly what it should do, get Cain talked about and keeping him in the news and at the top of the polls.

I believe Cain is a savvy enough businessman to know that one drag on a cig in his ad bought him millions in ad coverage from lefties throwing a PC hissy fit.

Which side of the argument is idiotic? I think Cain’s move was brilliant. He’s pushing the MSM’s buttons, and he’s just sitting back enjoying the popularity push.

Matter of fact, I would go so far as to say that this non-PC strategy will win Cain the WH if he keeps it up. This is Cain and Block saying, “Listen, we’re real people. We’re smokers. We’re workers. We enjoy our leisure time with a scotch and a cigar.” This is brilliant, IMHO.

I’m a cigar smoker. Never touched a cigarette in my life, but I still get a twinge of guilt when I light up out on the open porch at my local bar. It’s not illegal, but the glances and glares I get are unmistakeable. My fiancee, a cigarette smoker, just tells me, “Hey, they chose to sit outside.”

I’m tired of smokers being hassled. We’re part of just 25% of Americans who have this habit or leisure activity, yet the tax monies that are collected off of tobacco taxes are enormous. Always funny to me that PC liberals want to get smoking out of the public altogether, yet they rely on us to keep their coffers full.

Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Mr. Blitzer should know that the link between colon cancer and smoking is not particularly strong, unless one smokes in a highly unusual manner.

[ BLITZER: He survived stage 4 colon cancer. Anyone promoting smoking, not necessarily a good idea. ]

Hey Jackass Blitzer!!! Just because Michelle Obama eats too much then decides to try to ban fatty food doesn’t mean Herman Cain is going to infringe upon the people’s rights based off a past experiance with cancer.

It is like the liberals telling us that once you get in a car wreck you HAVE TO become an advocate for banning all automobiles.

Just because I am a fatty fat fatso doesn;t mean I need to impose my will or lack of willpower onto others and mandate that they no longer should be able to make the same mistakes as I made.....

This is why they will get smashed by the Cain Train.

You answered your own question.

Mr. Cain is a brilliant man and he has obviously surrounded himself with equally brilliant people.

The State Run Media? A populace or IDIOTS. You need to go no further to look at their educational backgrounds.

Rush showed great courage by playing the “offending ad” on his show today ;-)

I’d love to know how many free airplays of that ad have happened vs. the number the Cain campaign paid for...

So everyeone’s now wondering what the next ad will hold...maybe a guy drinking a beer? Or a large person taking a bite out of a double-cheeseburger?

Or maybe nothing at all, which means they’ll get more free airplay just to prove there’s nothing subliminal.

Pretty smart I say.

I think many have missed the point of Herman's cryptic message.

That is neither Cain's campaign nor his Presidency will be hobbled, controlled, restricted, shackled, influenced or suppressed by Political Correctness.

I was amazed by all the fake outrage over a guy taking a drag on a cigarette. Even Fox joined in the outcry, but the commie nutjobs on MSNBC devoted the whole day's programming to screaming about the ad. The funniest was some very effeminate black guy on one MSNBC show who practically fluttered out of his chair.

If I remember right, cigarettes are a legal substance as compared to the substances that clinton and obama used. Where was their concerns about clinton and obama??

“That is neither Cain’s campaign nor his Presidency will be hobbled, controlled, restricted, shackled, influenced or suppressed by Political Correctness. “

That’s exactly what hit me about that ad too, and point I made in another post. I was at first shocked and then emboldened and practically shouting at the tv- Right On!

Taking on the PC crowd and culture. See my tagline please.
