53% of the population by nature prefers security over risk-taking. These are the ones Obama is trying to appeal to with that kind of talk.

... if he loses the 2012 election it could herald a new, painful era of self-reliance in America.

Consider this sentence.

An ABC reporter actually wrote it.

"A painful era of self-reliance". He actually wrote that.

As opposed to "a comfortable era of reliance on the government"? And where has that gotten us?

It's a very telling phrase...

That’s the thing about liberals isn’t it. They are so goddamn condescending it’s unreal. It comes from their extreme arrogance and elitism; That people are mere children who cannot get through life without their masterful guidance which is exactly why the Dumbocrat party attracts so many sociopaths and psychotics.

I am sixty years old. My spouse and I are now retired and live on gross income of about $50,000. (Gross is before taxes) We have no large savings, only enough for emergencies.
I have a BA degree without gov’t grants or student loans. I was earning about $6000 per year and did not qualify in 1978-80’s. I had to pay for my classes and books. I attended local night class 2 times per week while working a full time job and a part time job and raising my daughter as a single parent. I remarried after five years.

My daughter has a PhD without gov’t grants or student loans. She worked and received some private scholarships. She did not qualify for anything, even student loans. Our income was about $33000 in the late 80’s to early 90’s and we had ZERO assets.

I also recall that we went to the doctor and got prescriptions during those years without ever giving a thought to the price. It was very affordable then even on our low income.

I believe people should work for themselves and not depend on the government or others in most circumstances. There are a few situations where folks need a hand and I try to be there for them. Most of us are capable of helping ourselves and I think it is best for us to do that if we can.
When we give everything to people, we rob them of the personal satisfaction they would receive in being able to provide for themselves and their families. We also give them a slave mentality by restricting what they can do in order for them to “stay on assistance”.
