Airlines with a big presence in Chicago say proposed new federal taxes aimed at reducing the federal budget deficit could cost jobs and limit flights to and from smaller markets in Illinois...
Airline taxes proposed by the White House and being considered by a Congressional committee include a tax of $100 per take-off for both passenger and cargo flights. A second tax would be on airfares, doubling the current $2.50 passenger security tax to $5 and eventually by 2017 to $7.50.

Frog in the pot on the stove, and the heat is still racheting up.
Racheting = ratcheting
I am done flying for the most part....I do not need my ‘junk’ handled by some federal junk handler....
paying more is just the merde icing on the cake.
The bustard is insane.
The bustard is insane.
The master plan is to raise energy costs to reduce our abilty to move freely. Once movement is managed, strict goverance is more manageable. Look for examples such as this: All higher air prices do is reduce Americans ability to move freely, so of course, those with that desire will support it... The real question is how much support does this have?
Screw ‘em. I gave up flying when the fascist TSA moved into our Nation’s airports thanks to those goose stepping goons in the last administration (Chertoff, et al), if I can’t get there by bus or train or driving myself, I just don’t go.
And if/when the TSA extends it’s greasy tentacles into the buses and trains on a wholesale basis, I’ll scratch them off the list too.
No, I don't think so.
Yes. This thinking is also behind the idea of federal health care and in fact ALL “national plans”....removing the power of individuals and the states to govern.
Once a person cannot say, “Hey, things are better over in [Texas, Georgia, North Carolina]. I think I will move there,” the feds will be in control of even MORE of your liberty.
Haven’t you heard ? The private sector is doing just fine. We need more public sector jobs. /sarc
“The real question is how much support does this have?”
I’d like to think ZERO support on the Republican side in the House, making it DOA. But with Boehner and the rest of those clowns, you never really know.
I’m sure that’s the plan. No one could be this incompetent. Not even the current resident of the white house.
Let me guess.. To pay for his high speed choo choo...
