The GOP could face a revolt from within its tea party grassroots base if it nominates an establishment candidate without true conservative, anti-big government values, one of Americas leading conservative pundits tells Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview.
Specifically, columnist and former Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan told Newsmax that the nomination of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the architect of a state insurance plan that many say inspired Obamacare, could prompt the tea party movement to form a third party.
Its a real possibility because the tea party folks and the Republican conservatives and social conservatives and others are very apprehensive of Mitt Romney and they dont feel he is really one of us, Buchanan told Newsmax.
Small wonder why the lib media wants Romney to be the candidate.
i have the solution: DON’T NOMINATE ROMNEY!
Under no circumstances will I vote for Romney.
If they nominate Romney it’s just like 2008. It will be a Democrat running against a Democrat and I’m not voting. The lesser of two evils is still evil.
Exactly! I will not vote for Romney and he can not carry Ohio. Please tell him the Presidency can’t be bought.
We must remain united. Divided we fall.
Every election groups of crackpots cleave off into new and old third parties. Pat knows this well, as he tried to elect Gore in 2000 by this route.
Besides who needs a new one. There are already lots of third parties to choose from.

If Pat’s right, I hope the third party wins.
Romney is totally repulsive to me, just a stealth model of liberal democrat.
You forgot the Peace and Freedom Party.
Too many “not Romneys” are still in the running, and some of them need to give it up, and BEFORE the primaries. Santorum and Bachman are below 3% and need to bow out. Not sure why Huntsman and Johnson are even messing around with this. Romney stays around 25% in polls. We need to get down to no more than two not Romneys, so that one of them can get more votes than Romney.
“i have the solution: DONT NOMINATE ROMNEY!”
BINGO!
And let’s tell our friends, who might be naive enough to think Romeny is the only one who can win, that Romney might be the only one who can lose the General Election, because just enough people might be upset enough and start a third party.

We don’t need a new third party. We need a new first party.
Nervous Nelly Alert
“Bring on a 3rd party - I’m more than ready for it.”
Third Party is how we got Bill Clinton.
I’d rather fight harder against Romney, even harder than I’ve already been fighting, so we don’t have to worry about that happening again.
So why did Clinton win?
And who’s to say a STRONG candidate won’t run under one of the parties you listed?
If they nominate Romney it’s just like 2008. It will be a Democrat running against a Democrat and I’m not voting. The lesser of two evils is still evil.
Amen to that. Stupid megalomaniac Perot.
“If Pats right, I hope the third party wins.”
I hope Romney isn’t the nominee, and so does Buchanan.
