Occupy Wall Street park cleaning postponed, averts showdown

New York (CNN) -- A cleaning planned for the Manhattan park where "Occupy Wall Street" protesters have camped out for weeks has been postponed, a move that averts a showdown between demonstrators and police.

The New York mayor's office said Brookfield Properties, the owners of Zuccotti Park, told the city late Thursday the scheduled cleaning is off for now and "for the time being" they are "withdrawing their request" made earlier in the week for police assistance during the cleaning operation.

"Our position has been consistent throughout: the City's role is to protect public health and safety, to enforce the law, and guarantee the rights of all New Yorkers. Brookfield believes they can work out an arrangement with the protesters that will ensure the park remains clean, safe, available for public use and that the situation is respectful of residents and businesses downtown, and we will continue to monitor the situation," Deputy Mayor Cas Holloway said

Well they are really gonna fire-up now because they’ve just faced down the City of New York and the NYPD.

As far as I can tell two things happened:

- the Teamsters showed up in Zuccotti Park today around 6AM

- the property owners withdrew their request for police assistance (and I’d bet my next paycheck that Obama had just promised them another $100 mil in green energy grants)

Was dumb of Bloomberg to try this at 7AM on a weekday in the middle of all the morning TV news shows. You do stuff like this at 5:30AM on a Sunday when nobody is looking.

Brookfield’s parent company receives “green” loans from the obama WH. Follow the money.

This OWS movement is Obamas last round.

I 100% agree with you. This is the Left's "morning after" failsafe plan in case they are not able to force Barry off the ticket.

Create a big, boisterous, ongoing Leftist street protest movement that will scare a RINO President and jelly-spined GOP Congress away from real austerity or reform.

Dysentery is not carried by rats and IS a communicable disease that occurs around places with horrible sanitation. I am sure that none of these trust fund idiots are even aware of what it is, and how it can manifest itself in even the US.

I will admit that I was practically unaware of how horrible it was until I was much older.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see it run through that crowd like crap through a goose.

If they stay a little longer, maybe it will snow on them. Now that would be fun to watch!

Makes me wonder if Bloomberg was really planning to do anything. Either way this has got to be getting very old for the people who work, live and are trying to run small businesses in the area.

It's not really communicable in and of itself; I believe it's a symptom of conditions affecting the GI tract, one of which can be infectious diseases caused by microorganisms. And it's those diseases that are communicable. It's nasty and has the potential to kill. Usually, however, in Western society, it's treated before it reaches that juncture. But it would sure be interesting to see a case of it pop up among our 'rat friends in New York City.

Rudy wouldn’t stand for this.

Hannity had him on yesterday. He said he would have shut it down the first night. No sleeping on the streets, period. They could have come back the next day but they would be gone by the end of the day.

Maybe they were thinking that it would make a good story, showing how peacful and cooperative the demonstrators were being, and had to cancel it when it became apparent that the reality of the situation wasn't going to line up with the planned propaganda campaign.

What they should do is an air-drop of the sewer treatment plant retention pond contents over the park FIRST; then clean up later.

Brookfield Properties, the owners of Zuccotti Park, told the city late Thursday the scheduled cleaning is off for now and "for the time being" they are "withdrawing their request"

As in:
The King of France
With forty-thousand men
Marched up the hill
And then marched down again.

That's my thinking. These delusional people didn't know who they're siding with and thought they could control them.
