Darden Restaurants (Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Capitol Grille, etc.) are run by Clarence Otis, Jr., a Buttswabber for Obama. I won’t eat at any Darden Restaurant because they are overrun with B4O types.

Ok, now that they have changed their stance and have apologized for it, will the Freepers here change their stance and patronize the establishment?

Of course not!

They did something wrong and there is no forgiveness!

So the sound and fury over a perceived insult was no such thing after all. It was about people needing to feel outraged about something.

Anything.

Just like liberals who are always outraged over whatever they can twist into an insult.

We complain about political correctness, but we have our own form here. Something “insults” us, we rage about it. Something “offends” us, we call for a boycott.

These are the seeds of political correctness. Don’t we see that our hyper-sensitivity and need to be victims is just as disgusting as when it is exhibited by “the other side”?

Darden has caved on this!!

As well they should. They are free to make any rules they choose but they also must be prepared to change those rules when they are idiotic and cost them on the bottom line. Other establishments should pay close attention to this episode. In a time of economic hardship any whiff of over-the-top PC will be dealt with by an aroused public prepared to spend their money elsewhere..

I don’t buy for one minute that having an American flag flying is in any way disruptive
Frankly, if I were in the middle of eating dinner, and a large group of people came in, set up a flag display and then recited the Pledge, I'd be rather annoyed. There is a time and place for such displays, but I don't think interrupting everyone else's dinner is appropriate.

This sounds like the kind of activity which should be taken to a private dining room (which places like the Olive Garden typically don't have).

I have tremendous respect for the flag, but that doesn’t mean I have to fly it in my living room or that I can demand that it be displayed on any other private property.

I am perfectly capable of being a loyal and patriotic citizen without looking at a flag or insisting that its absence is a mark against the owner of a business.

That’s just silly and counter to the freedoms we claim to cherish.

If you don’t agree with Olive Garden, by all means don’t eat there.

However, this patriot police stuff needs to stop.

FYI, Oxford is just down the street from Anniston, AL, the former home of Fort McClellan, headquarters of the Military Police and Chemical Corps branches.

As such, I have a feeling that if there is an anti-flag policy, it is not particularly directed towards the United States “stars and stripes” as much as another flag known for its “stars and bars”.

I loved Carrabbas when I tried it a few months ago.

I just sent an email to Darden's corporate relations site telling them what I thought. I hope others will send their comments as well. Money talks.

They support our soldiers with Operation Feeding Freedom, so I really think we should support the OSI restaurants. :) Carrabbas has always been my favorite for Italian. I think their food is the best among the chains. Although it is more expensive than Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill, I have found portions to be generous enough that I always bring home about half of my entrée for the next day.

An Olive Garden is being built in my town right now

I’ll check that type of thing out when they open...

One of the nice things that several national chains do for veterans is a free or cheaper meal on Veterans Day

Golden Corrall, O’Charlies, Applebys etc

Lets see what Olive Garden do for the veterans...

If they diss the veterans in this town they will be toast...

Just face facts. You're a petty fascist who wants to demand a private business allow a special display of something you want displayed.

You have no respect for the founding principles of this nation, rule of law or private property. A fascist impulse disguised as super patriotism is no virtue.

"But it's the flaaaaaaaaaaaag." *wahhhhhh*

I agree that the portions are generous. I had a hard time eating even half the lasagna....and the house wine was great. If they support our troops....that gives even more incentive to go there. (not that I’d need much arm-twisting) :)

A laptop with a picture of the flag, gets around such rules and doesn’t make too many waves. We have meetings in a room that is donated to our Constitution study group. The room does not have a flag so we bring one on the laptop.

The dang thing croaked last week. Two year old HP. Wasn’t the flags fault. Acts like mother board with a three flash error code on the power, hard drive and charge lights, but haven’t had time to get it looked at yet.

Good for you. It was an argument based on semantics and you pointed that out well.

Haven’t stepped in the door since I found out they were working with the Obama’s Socialist diet programs. Don’t preach to me when I’m spending $80.00 on a two person lunch every week & sometimes two per week.
I’ve found a local place and they make great food as well.
G’bye Olive Garden we once loved ye.

Sounds like they either had a leftist manager or a leftist in the corporate office. Either way, I would think this was the fault of a liberal who hates the flag and all it stands for.

I hate to hear that! I’ve always really liked Olive Garden’s food!

Is this just a local issue or company-wide? Very unfortunate.

it does sound like the party thought they would be in a banquet room.....if OG didn't have one they should have been upfront about it....

the "banquet" room at the local OG is nothing more than an open area with a few tables grouped closer together....

I don't need them nor the Red Lobster restaurant.....
