We hear time and time again about Newt's baggage. "He can't win because of it..."

At the same time, many many freepers (maybe 25%) say they will NEVER vote for Mitt Romney.

That said, how many people on this forum have stated they will not vote for Newt because of his "baggage".

Who is it that has the baggage? Newt or Mitt? Speaking for myself, I would vote for Newt any day of the week if the alternative were to vote for Romney.

Are we shooting our self in the foot here when we yap about Newt's baggage?

You need to ignore principles for a second when you try to predict the future. Stick to the precedents only.

how many presidents were elected even though they were divorced?

how many presidents were elected that were NOT governors?

how many fat presidents have been elected(in last 75 years?)

How many presidents were elected with grey hair?

how many presidents were elected that were not from the south?

how many presidents were elected that were not military?

how many presidents were elected that were unemployed?

lets just add it up without getting into the partisanship

I'd never vote for NG. Sure he's smart sometimes but then he lounges with Stretch Pelosi. It's not the good stuff that tells, it's the bad stuff. I'm sure OJS was a very sweet ex husband now and then.

I know this is a stupid post.. Usually I just delete them but tonight I'm a-clickin' "Post!"

You asked, no I would not vote for Newt in the Primaries.

My list is the following in current order of preference.

Cain
Perry
Bachmann
Santorum
Gingrich
Paul
Romney
Huntsman

Yes, Newt has baggage with him. I don’t consider his baggage to be as serious as Romney and his Romney care, but I would cast a ballot for Perry, Bachmann or Santorum before I cast a ballot for Newt.

His “baggage” consists of a trail of horrible decisions. I won’t vote for him. A president MUST have good decision-making skills.

As I said on another thread, people act as if Newt's knifed a woman in a alley somewhere. He's praised for his keen intellect and sharp debate skill yet treated as unredeemable. It's ridiculous.

I'm over the "baggage" argument. I too prefer him to Romney.

Gnewt is all talk and piss poor action. He has known and said all the right things for 30 years and then as soon as the next political fad hits he jumps on it like a teen girl at the mall. He is totally untrustworthy. Totally.

What do you have other than old infidelities and a "clean energy" ad campaign with Pelosi?

He did knife a woman in an alley.

Her name is Lady Liberty.

We have not forgotten.

For me, Newt’s baggage:

3 marriages and womanizing with affairs,
huge bills at Tiffany’s that the dems will exploit (think of Sarah Palin’s clothing even though Michelle Obama and Hillary had worse budgets),
he resigned in a bad way and was scapegoated by the Clinton administration and others for impeachment of Clinton,
Has a tendency to give the other side beautiful sound bites they can use against him and repubs,
Hooked up with Nancy Pelosi to combat global warming,

Those are a few. I’m sure if you do a little research on Newt, you’ll find more.

I like Newt’s mind, he scares me in a general election.

Part of his baggage is that dems and possibly independents will have a negative view of him because of the whole Clinton impeachment crap.

Both have some nasty baggage.

Here’s one of the lesser of Newt’s:

The fatal flaw is your assumption that Gingrich and Romney are the only two candidates.
