Perry's best strategy might just be to lay back and enjoy it. Because if he makes any more stupid statements in support of the illegal alien lobby, he is going to get pummeled.

Perry's problem is he has to overcome the image he created for himself this last debate. And he can't do that by laying back and enjoying it. It's a double-edged sword for him tonight.

It is a tough spot for Perry. He can't regain his footing by being a spectator, as you note. But every time he opens his mouth, he shoots himself in the foot.

Personally, I would prefer him out of the race because he will siphon conservative votes. If it comes down to Romney vs. Cain, I think Cain wins.
