“Apparently 69% of my fellow Texans would prefer to support illegals on the dole as opposed to letting them pay their own way through college. Clearly 69% are...uninformed.”
I don’t know one person, Texan or otherwise, who prefers to support illegals on the dole. I don’t even know any illegals on the dole. The Illegals in Texas colleges have graduated from Texas high schools. They have applied for citizenship. They have passed the same entrance exams that all kids take. They pay in state tuition. It’s not free. That said, I still hate that it happens. I still don’t think it’s fair. I’m anxious to see the plan to send a 20-year old kid with two jobs “back” to a country where he/she has never lived. We’re not uninformed. We don’t prefer special treatment for illegals. It has been a major problem for the past fifty years and no one has arrived at a solution. I don’t blame my governor for the problems in Arizona. If another state has the solution, step up to the plate.
I never had heard about this until the debates started. Perry’s “heartless” comment was just plain stupid. He should have explained why the decision was made to do this.
The biggest issue I have with it is that it discriminates against US citizens that live outside of Texas. Why on earth should a US citizen in Oklahoma have to pay more to go to a school in Texas than a child of illegal alien living in Texas? That just does not seem fair to me.
Foreign nationals (including high school students) residing in the U.S. illegally are generally NOT eligible to adjustment to legal permanent resident status, much less citizenship.
They're pinning their hopes on Perry sneaking into the White House and legalizing them all.
