Jen and Keith Gorney have chosen to serve their children raw milk from a local farmer. They've also chosen to send two of their kids to an Eden Prairie daycare for half day sessions. They didn't realize those choices would work against each other.
The Gorneys learned that USDA guidelines require centers that serve meals to serve pasteurized milk with those meals. The Gorneys wanted to bring water to serve as a substitute but that is not allowed.
They understand the daycare has no choice. If they do not follow guidelines they could lose their state license.

mmmm E Coli sounds delicious.
Actually I blame lawyers for this. A kid gets sick then the lawsuits start flying and next thing you know, the state has to pay out $10 million. Actually I don’t blame the lawyers. I blame the liberal politicians who allow it to happen. For example Bush tried to bring tort reform to healthcare, but the libs shot it down after they got paid off. So now Docs still have to pay $250K a year in liability insurance and healthcare costs go up and up everytime John Edwards wins another $10 million because a crack ho gave birth to a kid with flippers.

“A bumper crop of recent illness related to raw milk accentuates the problem. Last month, at least 30 people, including two children, tested positive for strains of campylobacter and Escherichia coli bacteria traced to raw (nonpasteurized) goat milk. In June five people in Minnesota were diagnosed with E. coli traced to raw cow’s milk from a local dairy. One, a toddler, was hospitalized after he developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure that is a potentially deadly E. coli complication.
They are hardly isolated cases. In fact, there have already been more reports of raw milk-related illness outbreaks this year in the U.S. than in any of the past five years.
Such outbreaks are largely preventable if milk is pasteurized, says Robert Tauxe, deputy director of the Division of Foodborne, Bacterial and Mycotic Diseases at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The process (known as high temperature, short time (HTST) pasteurization) was invented more than a century ago and relies on heat at least 72 degrees Celsius for 15 seconds to kill the stew of E. coli, campylobacter, Listeria, salmonella and other microbes that may lurk in milk that comes straight from a cow or goat. Medical experts consider pasteurization as one of the major breakthroughs in public health history. “A triumph,” Tauxe adds.

Just say your kids are allergic to pasteurized milk, then they have to serve them something else.
“In June five people in Minnesota were diagnosed with E. coli”
And how does this compare to deaths from auto accidents, doctor errors, drug abuse, etc ?
Life is risky, stop singling out select activities to target for control. Idiots.
“I blame the liberal politicians who allow it to happen.”
I also blame stupid parents who don’t mind if their kids risks dying from some preventable bacterial complication.
Yes, drinking raw milk is insane in the first place so I really don’t understand why these granola eaters are complaining in the first place. Are they trying to kill their kids? Abe Lincolns mother died drinking raw milk when he was a kid, milk sickness. Although I don’t think it was from the cows eating a poisonous plant not bacteria, but still, I wouldn’t eat anything raw today. About 20 years ago I almost died from salmonella poisoning from eating raw eggs trying to be Rocky.
“And how does this compare to deaths from auto accidents, doctor errors, drug abuse, etc ?”
Because there’s no reason why any kid in 2011 should risk dying just because they drank a glass of milk.
“Are they trying to kill their kids?”
It’s for the Cause.
Everything is a risk; maybe the milk is not properly pasteurized. Stop trying to control everyone for their own good it makes you seem like a liberal control freak.
“You want to harmonize with nature. Go harmonize.” John Clark from Rainbow Six
Howard Johnson: “And they say that now, in Paris, France, even as we speak, Louis Pasteur has devised a new vaccine that will obliterate anthrax once and for all...Think of it, gentlemen. Hoof-and- mouth disease a thing of the past!”
Olson Johnson: “Never mind that s—t, here comes Mongo!”
Yes it is. So why would a parent, who loves their child, deliberately make life even riskier? Pasteurized milk delivers the same nutrition without the risk of pathogens, and I can tell you from first hand experience, raw milk is loaded with pathogens.
The only idiots are the parents who risk their kid's health for no good reason.
This makes you seem like an enviro-nutty kook.
“Yes it is. So why would a parent, who loves their child, deliberately make life even riskier?”
Because they want everything to be One, Whole and Pure with Mother Gaia.
Maybe you should go over to DU they like to control people and so do you it seems.
