Actually, they would have, come to think of it. The headline would be:
NIXON IN DENIAL ABOUT WORST SCANDAL IN HISTORY
Issues Pathetic Plea: "Calm down."
Imagine if a year after the Watergate break ins, the WaPo had muzzled W&B, and had only reported it in the context of, “a nothing third-rate burglary not worth mentioning.”
Nobody was murdered at or over Watergate. The F&F body count is already over 200, mostly Mexicans.
