PRINCETON, NJ -- Rick Perry's image is suffering, with his Positive Intensity Score among Republicans familiar with him down to 15, and below 20 for the first time. Meanwhile, Herman Cain's score is now 30, the highest for any candidate this year.
The results are based on Gallup Daily tracking from Sept. 19-Oct. 2. Gallup calculates candidate Positive Intensity Scores as the percentage of strongly favorable opinions minus the percentage of strongly unfavorable opinions of each candidate among Republicans and Republican leaners familiar with the candidate.
The movement in Perry's and Cain's scores follows recent campaign developments, including poor reviews of Perry's performance in the September debates and Cain's surprising win in the Sept. 24 Florida straw poll.
In addition to Perry, Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul established new low Positive Intensity Scores this week, at 5 and 3, respectively. Bachmann was among the highest-rated candidates in June, peaking at 24, but has seen a steady decline since she posted a score of 20 in Aug. 1-14 tracking. Paul has not been rated as positively, with a high of 16 in May, and has registered in the single digits in all but one update since late May.
The net result of the changes is that Cain has established a wide advantage over any other Republican candidate in Positive Intensity Scores, with Perry (15), Mitt Romney (13), and Newt Gingrich (11) well behind Cain's 30. Rudy Giuliani (19) and Sarah Palin (13), whom Gallup tracks but who have not made decisions regarding entering the race, would also trail Cain by a considerable margin. The remaining announced candidates -- Rick Santorum (8), Bachmann (5), Paul (3), and Jon Huntsman (-1) -- have much less positive images among Republicans familiar with them.

Haha when Palin supporters attack!
The TX tuition bill for children of illegal aliens is not amnesty. It applies only to the individual and NOT to family members. However, I am sure you know that already.
Who do you consider a real conservative? I hate to tell you, but Perry is a real conservative. He is fiscal, social conservative, pro-life, defense hawk and a good friend to Israel. These positions are those of a real conservative. Compared to what Perry can do, the others have little chance of winning the nomination.
TX kids could not get instate tuition in any other state. Wonder just who you are supporting or do you prefer to deal only in slander and lies. The other candidates are doing well on their own in that regard.
A state voluntarily treating a known illegal like a legal is the very definition of amnesty.
Rewarding instead of prosecuting a lawbreaker is amnesty.
Letting a thief go because his mother needed the money for an operation is still amnesty even if it isn’t “heartless.”
Breaking a “little” law is the same as being a little pregnant—either you is or either you isn’t a criminal and how does one deal with criminals?
Well,in Texas—amnesty for illegal aliens and justice for everyone else.
Really? why do you want Perry to leave the race if you think his campaign is dead? Also why not the so called real conservative would take the lead by himself? You are wishing too much here but keep wishing.
Prry is an establishment republican who is more concerned about illegal aliens then his own countrymen.
He also has cozied up to Muslim leaders not to mention la raza.
I think you have Perry mixed up with someone who actually has a conservative record and one who is willing to stand up to those who threaten the American way of life.
He needs to leave the race so the party can rally around someone who is not Perry. Don’t see what is so hard to understand here.
To beat Romney we need Perry out and a conservative who will fight the establishment in.
Absolutely not. Every deserves to win the nomination on his own. I did not advocate for anyone to leave the race and I would not. You seem that you are still terrified of Perry despite that you and many have proclaimed that his campaign is dad. You should be terrified because at the end people are going to see if they want to nominate the three times governor of the largest conservative state in the Union, or a super liberal Republican from Massachusetts, or Pizza company CEO who has zero record to judge on except red meat rhetoric.
Perry is no different then gwb. He governed the same state. Him being from Texas means little to me.
Just because you are from a conservative leaning state does not make you a conservative.
Perry used to work for Al Gore for crying out loud. We don’t need another republican like that screwing things up even more then they are now!
Regarding Cain, he has no record to judge him since he was never elected to any public office, all what he has is red meat rhetoric and tough talk and I am not going to vote for someone who tells me what I want to hear when he has no actual record of governing to judge him on. We are voting for the President of the USA and not President of a debating club.
You just don’t get it do you?
We need a new kind of leadership. This guy is warmed over yesterdays dinner.
The country cannot stand for 4 more years of this kind of leadership. There is not going to be any country left unless someone takes the helm and pulls the ship hard right. Perry as president, or Romney as president is business as usual. Standing by the helm all high and mighty as the U.S.S America sails over the edge of the waterfall.
You establishment type just don’t get it.
The conservative wing of the republican party has stood by while your candidates have ruined this nation. Ruined it! I hold many in the republican party in contempt just like I do the democrats. They have destroyed this once great nation.
ENOUGH ALREADY!
Cain seems to be on the right side of one of the issues you mentioned, immigration. I haven’t heard his thoughts on free trade. The problem with these debates is hacks like Wolf Blitzer are so busy trying to play “gotcha” with the candidates that no substantial questions get asked. I’ll guarantee in the next debate we spend about 10 minutes hearing everyone’s thoughts on Perry’s “racist hunting lodge”
Spare me the emotional and poetry crap. If you want Cain as the nominee, he, you and his supporters need to make sure that he wins the nomination like it has been done for ages and not call for other to withdraw so it would be easier for him to be the nominee because it is not going to happen as you wish. Do you think that candidates would drop out because they just slip in the polls? It is a long and tough primaries season and their will be a winner at the end, it is that simple.

I expected an answer like this from one who supports the establishment wing of the republican party. You guys just cannot let go of power, I guess you really don’t understand how much damage the crappy candidates you have put up have done to the country and the GOP. Sad really.
You are so right about the repeated failure of the Republican Party, and I lay that blame on our clueless little Republican primary voters.
