Obama impeachment a possibility, says Ron Paul
Politico ^ | 10/3/11 | Dan Hirschhorn

Posted on 10/04/2011 12:22:48 PM PDT by traviskicks

Ron Paul said Monday that President Barack Obama’s targeted killing of Anwar al-Awlaki might be an impeachable offense.

Asked at a Manchester, N.H. town hall meeting about last week’s killing of the American-born Al Qaeda leader, the Texas congressman said impeachment would be “possible,” but that he wants to know more about how the administration “flouted the law.”

Paul called the killing a movement toward “tyranny.”

“I put responsibility on the president because this is obviously a step in the wrong direction,” Paul said. “We have just totally disrespected the Constitution.”

The comments once again put Paul at odds with his Republican rivals over foreign policy and the war on terror in the latest indication of how his foreign policy views stray far from Republican orthodoxy even in a GOP that’s taken on an increasingly isolationist bent. Candidates like Michele Bachmann and Mitt Romney — who included the president in a list of people he commended in a statement released Friday — have generally been supportive of the killing. No one else in the field has spoken out against it.

But Paul’s stuck with the civil libertarians who’ve criticized the targeted killing of an American citizen without public due process.

Paul, speaking at the University of New Hampshire’s Manchester campus as part of a brief swing through the state, also made another pitch for eliminating the federal income tax.

“If our lives and our liberty are our own, we ought to be able to keep the fruits of our labor,” he said.

An Obama impeachement seems much more likely over Operation Fast and Furious rather than “illegally” killing a self-confessed enemy combatant.

It will never happen.

Republicans will never dare, and the Democrats have no reason.

The Roman nightwatch would have been more likely to arrest Caligula than the Republican machine impeach Obama.

Not.

Gonna.

Happen.

Honestly, if a police officer shoots and kills a US citizen, there is an investigation into whether or not the use of deadly force was warranted. It seems to me that it would be too easy for absolutely nothing significant to come of this.

Can you imagine if Bush did this? Heck, Clinton and Reno murdered 80+ people in Waco and Obama orders the murder of a US (arguably)citizen. No uproar. Bush ordered wiretaps on out of country originated communications from suspected terrorists and he got excoriated. Liberals...

And Ron Paul has a snowball’s chance of becoming president.

And Bill Clinton really “didn’t have sex with that woman.”

And Barack Obama’s two birth certificates are real.

Silly John Wilkes Booth! He should have tried impeaching Lincoln for all those un-Constitutional killings!

And THAT really would have saved the South!

The death figures from the Civil War vary from around 618,000 to as many as 700,000. Several thousands hits way short of the mark.

I think the majority of Dems would have been happy if Bush had succeeded in getting Bin Laden. How many Republicans are unhappy that Obama got him and 2 or 3 other really bad guys? Of course, they would much rather it had been a Republican who did it, but bad-dead is a win for all.

And Paulestinians wonder why more people don’t take Ron Paul seriously?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I will be shocked if even Eric Holder is brought down for “F&F”. It will never reach Obama himself.

In fact, these drone killings are the only thing I applaud Obama for doing. I would actually like to see these expanded through Mexican authority surrogates to include drug cartel members. I would include Hugo Chavez in that, but it looks as if more natural causes may suffice, however slowly.

Some of these terror leaders may be worth more alive than dead, if their communications are leading us to the guys actually wielding bombs and other weapons.

Obama is cashing in on these incidents to boost his sagging ratings. The question is, what price is being paid in the overall WOT to keep Obama’s presidency viable until 2012?

There may be a good reason by Bush did not “get” them. He put the country and winning the WOT ahead of political expediency.

Would agree on the first bit, the republicans are worthless. On the second Im not so sure. If the dems go after Barry they could somewhat redeem their imagine in the eyes of enough plus move him aside making way for a strong presidential candidate. It could be a winning situation.

I can see that in theory, but that would shatter the loyalty of the black base for a very long time. Without them, the Democrats are toast in most areas and most races. This cycle they are forced to keep this sterile mule, and call it a stallion. His creators might “kinetically” remove him, but they are not going to impeach him. Another possibility would be a biographical document dump -unless- he withdraws. It would depend on whose hand holds his real files, if any hand does.

Yes, I can sort of see that. Its hard to say whether the black community as a whole will view his removal as an afford. I think it depends greatly on how its done. Already there are voices in the black community dissing Barry. In any event the press will be necessary for propaganda. Actually, I could envision the dems eating Barry in an attempt to ‘stay alive’. In the end though I think they’ll further marginalize themselves b/c of it. After all they ate Hillary so Barry might rule and we can see that didnt end well. Frankly, I think Hillary would be in good shape (metaphorically speaking) if she were pres rather than Barry. Shes cunning and ruthless and Barry is a clumsy, offish clod.

This should prove to anyone who is awake, Ron Paul is a dangerous kook.

When someone is shooting at the Police, do they shoot back with the intentions of killing this person so he does not kill the police, or do they wait for a Letter of Marquee to be hand delivered to the perp?

I hope you're right but I wouldn't be so confident. He has a heck of a lot of support in Iowa--he nearly won the Straw Poll and unless some of these crazy supporters wake up to the threat of Ron Paul, he is likely to do very well at the caucuses.

This country elected Obama so the insane is beginning to outnumber the sane.

Legally, this law makes sense and provides cover for the administration’s actions. However, I am torn about this because I am truly frightened over the interpretatation of this law, especially with our current administration’s mind set. Who is to say that you or I could not be declared a terrorist and enemy of the state? What if (heaven forbid) a Freeper loses his mind and attacks the US? Could we not be listed as known associates because we are members of the same ‘organization’? I know this is a stretch, but when has this administration not twisted the law to get their way? I would certainly want due process to sort out the conflict.

But...but...Obama hasn’t called me an enemy today, so I must be safe! And I haven’t left the country in weeks—so I must be safe!

These dummies think it can’t happen to them, just the people who really are America’s enemies. Obama and Big Sis decide who the enemies are, and if it’s FR next week, they’ve jumped on the “kill `em all without a trial” bandwagon. Good work on their part, tearing up the Constitution for expediency and Obama’s sake.
