Herman Cain leaving the campaign trail: Why now?

Herman Cain leaving the campaign trail: Why now?

Herman Cain is surging in popularity in a number of polls. So why is Herman Cain putting his campaign on hold for the next month?

The Hermantor Experience is, by almost any measure, the hottest thing going in the GOP presidential primary (not named Chris Christie).

< snip>

But Cain seems destined to squander it. And here’s why.

As NBC’s thoughtful First Read points out this morning, Cain's promoting a book - and appears to be taking himself off the campaign trail for almost a month.

Cain won’t be back in the key state of Iowa until November. With all of the jiggering of the Republican primary calendar, that means he’ll have six weeks (at best) to pound the trail before the Iowa caucuses in early January.

Perhaps equally telling, Cain's well-regarded communications director and her deputy are both leaving the campaign, with the director headed to… run press operations for Louisiana Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne in a tough primary election. That’s not exactly a vote of confidence in Cain’s presidential prospects.

< snip>

When you peel off the campaign trail for four weeks in the heat of the fight, it raises questions about just what the heck a candidate is doing in the race anyway. ....

< snip>

When you take yourself off the campaign trail just to flog a book, it raises the question: Why are you still around, Herman Cain? And what’s the real motive behind this run?

The problem is, some Freepers are actually buying it. To me, it was obvious BS from the start. (just like the WashPo hit piece on the rock at the hunting camp).

Some things just should never be fallen for.....ever.

I was thinking about voting for Herb Cain until I found out he wears his wife’s panties.

More and more it looks to me like Cain has got Romney stink all over him.

If that's the case, I'm back on the Perry bandwagon out of sheer spite.

Romney sucks and can not be the nominee.

I think the rock incident is unfortunate for both Perry and Cain. Going to a hunting lodge with that name is no proof at all that Perry is a racist. He just didn't think about it. But I also see Cain's view.

His people WERE treated terribly in the past and that slur is a reminder of those days. I know it's easy to assume that he "faked" being upset about it for political reasons, but one has to consider his perspective.

I'm polish. If there was a camp named "dumb polack ranch" I might be offended. Most likely I would laugh... but I have also never been the victim of Polack hatred either. Cain is an older man. He has lived through a lot and has experienced his share of racism. That would make anyone genuinely sensitive to it.

Amen! I heard the Amanpour-Cain gotcha/ambush interview in its entirety. For context, EVERYONE should do so. Particularly those with doubts about Herman Cain. We owe the man that much at least, conservatives strike me as fair, and trying to get the whole picture, and also not letting the Liberal MSM dictate the narratives, frame the story and control the information (or disinformation in this case), you would think we were more hep to their game than that by now!

Herman Cain's book, This is Herman Cain!: My Journey to the White House is in Amazon Books Top 25 overall, #3 for Memoirs, and #1 in Political books this evening. The book is scheduled for release tomorrow.

You want us to believe that Cain cannot campaign and sign books at the same time. That requires willful suspension of disbelief.

You wish for us to believe the departure of Cain's young communications director is scandalous. Not a chance. Cain upgraded to a heavyweight in Donald Rumsfeld's former spokesman J.D. Gordon.

Your attempts to impart cracks in Cain's campaign are feeble, at best. That dog don't hunt.

The poster should be banned for life for this pack of lies (especially the headline and it’s posting in Breaking News).

Is Cain is campaigning in the upcoming primary states next month?

You know that for a fact? You must is you claim that saying otherwise is a "lie".

If Cain is putting his campaign on hold for a month, in the heat of battle, you do not think that belongs in Breaking News?

What, besides emotions, do you offer to this debate?

If there is one GOP candidate in this race that is a persona non grata it is Mitt Romney. You are the person emotionally defending the candidate that backs Mitt Romney.

I am the person that states that Cain should be examined more closely.

Because they have VERY SHORT MEMORIES.

Hang in there, though. Keep the faith. Don't let the Liberal MSM's clever slick tricks sidetrack you or demoralize you over support of good, solid conservative candidates for president they view as "fringe" and they don't want anywhere NEAR the White House, let alone take on their Golden (shower) Boy Obongo in the General Election, who's political clock would surely be cleaned on live national TV in the debates. Carry the Fire. Keep the Faith! Stand Fast! Man the Ramparts!

Agreed. Was going to post to you to thank you for your posts on this thread. I was starting to become really depressed that so many couldn’t see through all of this! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one! :)

It makes sense. The stuff that people who are not solid Republicans like is stuff that solid Republicans don’t like.

With Ron Paul it’s extremely easy to see. Young male independents really do like the end the wars stuff. Romney is generally to the left on all issues, so “moderates” like Romney.

Ron Paul’s numbers, even though better than everyone elses vs Obama except for Romney, are hurt by a large number of Republican undecideds. Republicans aren’t saying they’d vote for Obama vs Paul (Obama’s numbers with Republicans vs Paul aren’t good), but they aren’t saying they’d vote for Paul either. Paul would be crushing it on the head to heads vs Obama if Paul would pick up half of the undecided Republicans.

Just going to keep LYING, aren’t you? That’s disgusting. Cain did NOT say he wouldn’t support Perry if he were the nominee.

Is it also a lie that Cain endorsed Mitt Romney in the Atlanta Journal Constituition two day BEFORE Super Tuesday. 2008?

A majority of FR supported Romney over McCain, but you keep saying this as if he was out of line. Was the majority of FR out of line?

And we were right. McCain only won the primary because democrats crossed party lines and voted for him ... knowing he was a sure fire loser. Romney is not ideal, but he would have been better than Obama.
