Herman Cain leaving the campaign trail: Why now?

Herman Cain leaving the campaign trail: Why now?

Herman Cain is surging in popularity in a number of polls. So why is Herman Cain putting his campaign on hold for the next month?

The Hermantor Experience is, by almost any measure, the hottest thing going in the GOP presidential primary (not named Chris Christie).

< snip>

But Cain seems destined to squander it. And here’s why.

As NBC’s thoughtful First Read points out this morning, Cain's promoting a book - and appears to be taking himself off the campaign trail for almost a month.

Cain won’t be back in the key state of Iowa until November. With all of the jiggering of the Republican primary calendar, that means he’ll have six weeks (at best) to pound the trail before the Iowa caucuses in early January.

Perhaps equally telling, Cain's well-regarded communications director and her deputy are both leaving the campaign, with the director headed to… run press operations for Louisiana Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne in a tough primary election. That’s not exactly a vote of confidence in Cain’s presidential prospects.

< snip>

When you peel off the campaign trail for four weeks in the heat of the fight, it raises questions about just what the heck a candidate is doing in the race anyway. ....

< snip>

When you take yourself off the campaign trail just to flog a book, it raises the question: Why are you still around, Herman Cain? And what’s the real motive behind this run?

Because book sales are a way for big supporters to channel big money to your campaign.

I think you're probably right. Cain wouldn't quit now.

It's amazing how quickly things turn. Romney has to be loving it now. Lord help us if he ends up the nominee. I don't see how obama-lite beats obama the real thing.

Cain isn't a seasoned politician. He will have to grow a bit to win. But look at the alternatives: Perry: no fence, did nothing about illegals while governor (I'm a Texan...), hasn't kept very many campaign promises. Romney: Leftist. Bachman: No chance. Paul: Excessively isolationist. The others: Just that... no shows. Cain: Not a politician, has an actual plan (sales tax, reduced flat income tax) proven in other countries to help the economy, knows how to run a real business.

I would still go with Perry, mainly because I just know more about him and can forgive some of his errors. But Cain is worth a closer look.

Perry can’t recover; its his record that is sinking him, not false attacks like Palin gets.

Perry can recover if we get behind him.

If we?

Sorry, but this is about Perry and not about "we".

Okay,..... It is time to treat Rick Perry like I treated my own son after he got a little too cocky about studying for his SAT because he had a 4.0 GPA against weak competition at his local high school.

Son, you have gotten LAZY!

Thing have been way to easy for you. For 11 years, you won reelection just by showing up against weak candidates. In the last Governor's race, you blew off debates all together. Your opponents debated without you and you STILL won.

In these Presidential debates, you were so in love with yourself because of the initial polls that I read that you REFUSED to engage in any special debate prep.

Well, guess what?

That geek with the 3.97 GPA from BYU CLEANED YOUR CLOCK because he prepared and you DID NOT!

You need to work your arse off or you will be TOAST!

Now go to your room and put in the WORK for your next debate!

I would not call him a troll.Others cough cough have become upset when they’re candidate fill in the blank _____ was dissed by another. It’s politics and primary infighting. As I said in another post all of the candidates and Palin have screwed up.The gotcha’s used on here and the HE IS/SHE IS A RINO are just as unsubstantiated as this thread. How many times was there a breaking news Palin thread because she had a running suit on?Or someone was mad another ones candidate fouled another? The drama is never ending.Cain will be looking for that rock at a hunting camp,Palin will tease,Bachmann will get migraines,Perry has illegal mexicans on his hunt club-there I started a new one the MSM love us drama queening to keep the attention off Obama. When this all settles down we will all vote out Obama.

All I can say is, when Cain came out of Florida with a) a decisive debate victory; and b) a straw poll victory, coupled with a surge up in the polls to make it three in the top teir, I said precisely here on FR over a week ago "Katy, bar the door". I observed you would start to see the hit pieces come out of the Establishmentn, the lib and moderate blogs, and I was just about right on target time-wise.

It's starting.

This hit piece here, totally devoid of facts, is an excellent case in point.

Please note, class.

Polbius is trying to sell everyone on this establishment republican from Texas. Posting everything and anything negative he can about real outsider republicans like Cain and SP. He probably works for the sinking Perry campaign.

Can Obama be defeated by a candidate that has Negatives as high as Nancy Pelosi and has not even DECLARED?

Is a long-time supporter of Mitt Romney really an "Outsider"?

Whose strategy has propelled Mitt Romney to the top of the GOP polls, CSI007?

Look in the mirror.

Your's has.

Congratulations. You have been played like a cheap fiddle.

He & Patrick1 are trolls...period. It’s nothing to do with support of an candidate, one or the other were posting this past spring how it is lost and Obama was going to win....they are trolls.

Perry is the candidate that the GOP establishment is pushing. I got a mailer from Perry that had the same ID number next to my name as all the RNC mail has.

Perry is the turkey that we have to fight, Romney is already toast.

Romney is the winner, right? Pro-sharia, Romney. Pro-BADgovernment, Romney. Pro-FlipFlop Flipper, Romney. Pro-MOREfees, Romney. Pro-BIG DIG, Romney. Pro-dog abuse, Romney. Pro-DirtyTrick, Romney. Pro-DeathPanel, Romney. Pro-EndlessMormonExcuses, Romney.

Who is currently leading the GOP polls now, Diogenesis?

Sarah?

Yes, the Stalking Horse attacks on Perry have propelled Romney into the lead in the most recent polls.

Call up Sarah and get her in the race because, RIGHT NOW, Romney has taken the lead after the mugging of Perry.
