NY Times Freaks Out After Judge Upholds Most of Alabama’s Immigration Law

Stand With Arizona

How significant was Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn's ruling upholding key sections of Alabama's H.B. 56 immigration law? Well, just ask the New York Times, which flipped out over it in their lead editorial:

A federal judge has upheld most of Alabama’s new immigration law, the nation’s harshest and most radical attempt to harness a state’s power to find and punish illegal immigrants. The consequences for Alabamans will be serious — not just for the undocumented, but for their blameless citizen children, for those who are mistaken for unauthorized immigrants and for farmers and other business owners ensnared in the law.
"Harsh", "radical", "find...punish", "unauthorized immigrants". Read enough of the Times' editorial and you might actually forget that illegal immigration is, well, ILLEGAL.

While the Times is relieved that Judge Blackburn suspended (pending trial) sections making it a crime to "harbor or transport" illegals, barring illegals from public universities, and preventing day laborers from seeking work, they spared no hyperbole to describe the sections she upheld which do no more than uphold Federal immigration laws on the books:

But her mixed ruling was most discouraging for what survived. Judge Blackburn upheld the “papers, please” section, an echo of Arizona’s notorious attempt to require state and local law enforcement officials to check a person’s immigration status during traffic stops if they have “a reasonable suspicion” that someone is here illegally.

She upheld a section that criminalized the “willful failure” of an illegal immigrant to carry federal immigration papers.

Ah, the old "Papers, please" reference to Nazi Germany, suggesting that checking people's IDs is akin to the Nazis checking "papers" for Jews or political opponents to arrest or otherwise persecute. But what if you are here in the U.S. legally, as a Permanent Resident? Well, you get a "green card" to prove it.

And what is the Federal law for green card holders regarding carrying the ID? It is written right on Form I-797, which all holders receive:

Hmm...what does that say? Let's take a closer look...

Wow, those evil Nazis at Homeland Security mandate that green card holders carry their "papers" at "all times"! And those are LEGAL immigrants. How outrageous! I am expecting a follow-up editorial from the Times decrying this Fascist mandate.

Funny. I work with an older lib....who HATES illegals (one of her pet peeves). She also subscribes to the NYT.

I’ll have to ask her tomorrow about this one.

Did this judge really respect the 10th Amendment? If so, how do we go about CLONING him/her?

The left is so used to getting their way that it just freaks them out when somebody doesn’t just do as they’re told.

Just how are farmers and businesses “ensnared” by this law? Did someone trick them into hiring illegals? Is the NYT aware that it’s already a crime?

I don’t see what they’re mad about. They LIKE illegals, and now that they are leaving Alabama maybe N.Y. will be LUCKY and they will go THERE! Alabama’s loss will be their gain!
Closer than going back home for the illegals, right?

Can't be. A couple of nights ago the Perry fanbots were telling us it was an inconsequential piece of legislation.

This law is making Perry look like an IDIOT for defending open borders and keeping Texas a nice place for illegals to hang out in.

“America is in dire need of “media” reform. Our “media” REALLY sucks!”

Agreed. I ran across this:

http://www.therightscoop.com/open-thread-grinding-America-down/

this morning, and it addresses the issue of the agenda for communist destruction of America from within. Among the points of the agenda is the take over of the media.

This video is brief, (6-7 minutes) and is an outstanding recap of that agenda given by a young state representative who has been tracking this story since the early 90’s when a friend, who wanted to know what was being discussed but was unable to attend, asked him to go to a communist party meeting in his stead.

Please consider reading it and passing it along to others who are not as knowledgeable about the dangers we are facing.

My dad was stationed in France in the early 50’s. I lived with my dad and remember having a French ID that I had to carry with me when ever I left the house we were living in. Mine was red (18 yrs old) and my brothers were green (under 18). Also had to have a passport and a Visa stamp. All American, had to have this French ID and carry it where ever they went in Franch. Your picture was in it and the town listed where you stayed, house address, your parents name, your age, what country you were from, if 18 most register for the French draft and other info that I forgot plus you had to sign the ID then it was stamped by several officials. Those stamps where most important for without them or it was jail time or military service (off to French Indochina or Vietnam as called today). I did not mind carrying the ID. Also the local police would check you out at random times for the ID. So I feel that our police should be able to check out any person for what their citizenship status is.
It use to be that when you returned from a visit to Mexico or Canada. You where asked what your citizenship was and where you were born. So whats wrong with our law enforcers asking that of any person they stop. To me the ones screaming about this being illegal are the ones who are trying to hide the fact that they are here without a legal right to be here. Just like showing an ID for voting. It cuts down on persons who makes a deceitful pretenses of voting. So showing or asking for an ID will not completely eliminate the problem but could help to ID who is here illigal.
