New Immigration Law Impacts Albertville Schools (It's working)
WHNT ^ | 30 SEP 2011 | Carson Clark

62 Students Absent Thursday, 107 Friday

Albertville, Al— Just days after a U.S. District Judge ruled that Alabama's new immigration policy could become law, it's already having a huge impact on Albertville City Schools.

Superintendent Ric Ayer tells WHNT News 19 that on Thursday 62 Hispanic students were absent. Friday the number jumped to 107. Hispanic students make up roughly 30-35 percent of the student population.

Ayer says around 30 students have formally withdrawn from the school system since Wednesday. He says the large number of absenses may also represent students who will not be returning.

He also says he doesn't think that the students have been taken out of class out of fear of the immigration law's new education requirements. He says only 5 or 6 students this school year could not prove they were U.S. citizens or in the country legally. He believes it might be from parents, many of whom are not legally in the country, deciding to move.

107.
^^^^^

That's at least 4 to 5 teachers and, of course, support staff. I bet the teachers union members are **not** happy. And...It means fewer dues going to the Democrat-Marxists.

Well that’s 4-5 teachers salaries that were not needed and a waste of tax money. If they want to teach mexicans let them go to mexico. Sounds “heartless”, but if they want to teach Russian kids, French kids, whatever, it’s your option teachers.

Here in Florida, our Hispanic immmigrants are one of our great strengths and one of the reasons the state is doing so well. But I guess that’s inconceivable on FR.

The kids may not be in school, and the parents may be thinking of leaving the state, but not necessarily the country. Other states will take them.

Immigration is one of the areas where you need at least a minimum national policy. States can’t have complete freedom to decide on who gets the benefits of citizenship (or even more than citizenship) because it affects everyone, not just the individual State.

We have enough laws and policies. What we don’t have is enforcement.

I agree. But, if there is no Federal enforcement--and in fact, Federal antipathy to these laws--it's like having no Federal law at all. So, this means every state does different things, if anything. My point was that because there is no enforcement of the Federal law, the parents will just move over the state line, and nothing will really be gained.

Just as likely, these days, that the remaining children in those classrooms will get a class size smaller than 35.

The majority of hispanic immigrants in Florida are quite legal, being from Cuba and Puerto Rico. These legal immigrants are one of our great strengths. However, neither of those two groups care for Mexicans. Many hispanics don’t like illegals.

If it were not for the RINOs in our legislature, we would probably already have laws like Alabama.

Your Hispanic immigrants are largely Cuban and are living in Florida legally.

That’s not a “apples to apples” comparison to what’s happenend in Arizona, Texas, California.

Go on over to LULAC headquarters. You can meet up with the other Perrwinkles there. They are helping to plan the next
amnesty rally.

I missed the sarc tag
and YOu missed the ILLEGAL part I guess

let’s see
fla unemployment? 10.7 ( what is national average?)

housing market? fla is in top 5 of the WORST in USA

Just the state cost of taking care of illegals? over 700 million. How is the State budget?

what part of that do you see as “ doing well”??

Well, immigrants (or "immmigrants" for that matter) is not what this is all about, is it? This is about foreign nationals in our country illegally. Immigation, after all, is a legal term.

You must be referring to the ones in the country legally, and mostly from South America.
